Thursday I gave my 77 lam. .177 an initiation. Put on BKL mounts on an Element Scope. With fresh snow easy to track all shots, to zero in. Spotted a twig 30 yds. away. Carefully aim

watching to see where the shot goes. Pull trigger and the twig jumps. I’ve mounted at least 60 scopes and never been zeroed from start, been close but never dead on. I shot 20 rounds in disbelief, missed once. Had to go inside, 8 deg. F. but a dirty wind. All day I’m gloating to myself, I thought I won the lottery. Looking forward to tomorrow with better weather to shoot this gem. Friday still cold I’m out at 10;30 can’t get the pellet in quick enough. Shoot at 2 in. spinner 30 yds. away. Miss, must have pulled the trigger. Take another shot 25 yds. Miss. Shoot in fresh snow to see where it’s going. High and to left, out 8 inches. I don’t understand.

I checked all stock screws and scope screws, no problem.
What is going on?

Has anyone had this happen?

How can it shoot flawless and then a complete embarrassment?

Crazy …..I’ve had half a mill dot variances with temperature change ,you said it was 8° and ( dirty wind) thursday so what was it Friday ?

with that being said remember Spring/chamber and scope all affected by extreme weather specially 8°. it sucks that some rifles tend to act different in the slightest difference of whether this is why when I go to field target I always have to re-zero check….. safe shooting.

Well now it us sounding more like a scope issue, just because it is new doesnt mean you might not have a bad one. Temps and humidity make small movements, not some 20 inches !!! Hopefully you have an extra go to scope to check things out.......and are you sure the mount isnt moving ??? Just throwing ideas out there....

I’m thinking so. I’ve never seen a scope jump like this one. Weird when you first shoot it and it’s so accurate you think you’re shooting a broken in rifle. I was ready to get the mirror out and shoot behind my back.
Absolutely positive I’m tightening the screws down properly. First thing I checked.

I’m gonna put on the iron sites, popping them back on tonight, my wife usually crashes early.

I appreciate all ideas, thanks. Crow

I took an Air Max off my HW97 I know it’s accurate, transferred it on to the 77. 8-10 clicks down, nailed it.
I then put the Element scope on the 97. Worked like a dream. This is like a vicious circle.

I didn’t understand how the 77 could flex so much on the first 3 days without touching any adjustments. Definitely not the wind, today was the most windy of all days.
I shoot regularly in temps down to -10 F. and never see this inconsistency.

Any ideas? Crow

AirShot is rattling my memories from years gone by. When rabbit hunting in the bitter Michigan winter with my .177 R1, my wearing of a face mask would change my head placement on the stock also. I remember just shooting the gun in and adjusting the scope every time iI went out. My whole wardrobe changed with the temperature. I really never thought about the hold sensibility. I think the head placement and gun angle are very overlooked issues with springers.
