Traveling by air with your PCP?

...Actually when you send the gun UPS or FedEx all you need to do is lower the pressure so it can handle the change in atmospheric pressure of flying.
...

???

Most airgun are rated for 2000-3000psi.

Another 8 or 9 psi from an unpressurized cargo hold will make little difference.

I could see draining all pressure for accident safety, but it would not be to compensate for "atmospheric pressure of flying".

Legally in compliance with all rules and regulation, UPS & Fedex WITH psi MUST be shipped ground freight only, sure they still pop it on a plane but YOU are clear in case of the 1 in 1,000,000 "chance". But these days most just do as they like.

TSA personally wouldnt mess around they will keep anything they like/dont like, you included.

The way to avoid TSA is buy yourself an airplane. It solves so many problems, no standing in line, no x-ray, and best of all you can make your own schedule. Flying commercial, your are literally treated like a herd of sheep. I love my airplane.

My friend and I were planning to share a 180 a few years back. I rarely have to fly anywhere anymore (and designed my life so that I don't have to!), but if I had to be in that routine again - I would very strongly consider that again!

I can say that on my return from Poland with my airgun the only hassle was one of my teammates charging ahead without us and having to be collected by custom's. Otherwise not only was my gun, but my other checked bag waiting for me. A few questions later and off we went. I would say it wasn't a big deal and well within what i was told to expect when coming home.

You can't expect flying with an airgun or firearm to be as easy and smooth as a carry on only flight. Give yourself the time needed to check your gun(s) following your airlines policies and you shouldn't encounter any issues.

Took an air rifle with me (.22 FX Streamline) from San Diego to Honolulu, HI a month ago. Turned out it was a non-event. Gun was in a solid Plano case with two locks that only I had the keys to. Counter agent (Alaska Airlines) had me open it up, show her the gun, and lock it back up. She didn't even check to see if it was depressurized. Gun arrived safely with no damage. I picked it up at baggage claim for oversize luggage with all the golf bags. Easy... ;)
