Top of the Line Hunter FT Rifle and Optics

Best that I've actually tested was a KonusPro F30. It ranges remarkably well at 16x. F30 is ffp but they have an equivalent sfp. It is not what I would consider top tier but ranges well, is clear at 16x, and has an excellent reticle. The one I have is not perfectly clear at 32x but it's clear enough to be useable and competitive. March, Kahles, and Scmidt & Bender are really the top of the heap but I have no idea how well they range at 16x. My Weaver V16 is pretty good but has a very simple holdover reticle and is objective paralax so is difficult to add a wheel type device to enhance ranging. I'm not a Hawk fan, but many use them in competition.

Hope this helps some ,

Bob

I shoot some FT in Hunter and I like the big 10-50x60 scopes with a 16x line. I think they make 16x ranging a bit easier and the good ones are very bright and clear. I posted an inquiry here about high end FT guns a year ago. RAW and Thomas guns received the most votes, and as you know both are US made. I got a TM1000 thru SPAW. Great gun and great service. Uj

I sent my Thomas to Mike for a repair and had it back in a couple of weeks. As for the Sightron specs, someone else will have to step in. I think Hector was just trying to say the reticle was calibrated to 24 power. Not sure how to explain it , but nothing to worry about. I do know a lot of the top shooters use them.

Both of my FT Sightrons are the older models and don't have the 16x marked on them so I would have to use 12x if shooting in Hunter class. I've heard I can send them to Sightron and have them put a 16x marking on it . I believe it's around $150? I was shooting in Unlimited class back when I was shooting FT so I kept my scopes set on 30 power, so it didn't matter to me?

Also mine are the Hector models that focus from 9 yds to just over 55 yds. Anything beyond 60 yds it starts getting blurry, but that gives you a huge advantage on your scope wheel markings being farther apart than conventional scopes. Makes range finding a lot easier.
