Top hat leak

Hello,

Went to shoot my air gun the other day and realised it was empty, when I filled tank it started to leak just below top hat. So my question is, is there an o ring right below that I can just change out and if so where is best place to buy tool for top hat removal and o rings. Or should I just get a whole new regulator set up being that mine doesnt work as a regulator should.

Thank you in advance

There is an o ring in the brass bonnet the top hat goes into. However, the leak you have is originating from the delrin seat the top hat presses into.

Air cannot leak past the o ring in the bonnet unless the delrin seat is failing. It’s called the valve head in this schematic.

order spares from Air Force. While you are doing that, have them send you a brass bonnet with orings. You’ll thank me later😉

and BTW, you will need to make sure the tank is totally empty before attempting to make these repairs.

It’s a sealing guide for the top hat. When you fire the gun, the top hat is forced back into the tank to allow air to flow through the center of the top hat.

The top hat’s stem is pressed into the delrin seal. The delrin seal seals the pressure from the tank to the gun. There is a spring inside the valve that puts force on the delrin seal to seal it to the bottom of the brass bonnet.

The top hat, depending on the model, has opening(s) just above the delrin seal. When you fire the gun, these openings are exposed to the air for a nano second in the tank thus flowing to the barrel.

what causes the delrin seal to leak, is over several thousand times of it slamming shut against the bottom of the bonnet, the bottom of the bonnet cuts into the delrin seal causing it to leak slowly.

All of this is totally normal and is nothing you did or could prevent short of not shooting the gun.

just below the schematic you will find a photo of a cut-away of the valve and you can kinda see how all of this plays out.

if you need any help, PM me. I’ve owned many condors and talons and have done many repairs.

all the best.
