@AirShootist As someone who has shot the Panthera at a high level in NRL-22 and the Krait X at a "let's see what happens" level, what are your thoughts on the AirMaks Katran N?

On the one hand, it's just a Katran X HP tube gun with a longer rail and bigger plenum. On the other hand, a longer rail (with Arca on the bottom and M-Lok instead of keyhole slots) and a bigger plenum are kind of what I was looking for in a NRL-22 build.

I think my biggest concern is still the fore-end depth. I mean, it's better than a bottle gun but you still have the Arca rail maybe 1/2" to 1" below the trigger as opposed to the Panthera/DRS/rimfire with the rail level above the trigger. I feel like the lower rail will be less stable shooting off of barricades due to the weight of the scope, but adding weights may counter this. I mean, my Delta Wolf Arca rail almost drags on the ground when shooting standing but it feels fine when shooting off of tank trap tips. However, you almost have to use a puff pillow as a rear bag when shooting prone because the bipod is on such a low rail.

I think my next concern would be price point. How much cheaper than a DRS Pro MDT does it need to be for it to be a no-brainer? And will the DRS Pro cause a surplus of used Pantheras on the market that would be the same price as a new Katran N? I love the CZ barrel and Huma reg, but it's hard to argue with the geometry of the Panthera.

This is all speculation until the Katran N actually makes it to market, but I wanted to get your thoughts. You aren't the NRL22 Airgun hero that we deserve, but the one we need.

Aww man, that nice comment on the end really got me! 🥹 Thanks, king.

In the case of the Katran N, no matter how you cut it - it's still a front bottle (or tube) gun and that does make the rail hang down lower than, say, a Panthera. In any case, it will be much better than trying to use an Impact or Krait for NRL22 because it will not be as tall. My main concern on the Katran N is.... with that long ass barrel will I be able to pull in and out of some barriers easily? Probably not much of a factor, honestly, but something I still think about...

There is a chance I may be getting a Katran N to try out, so until that theoretical day comes I can't really get into a much deeper level than my initial speculation. 😉 I will say, however, that the Katran N looks promising and definitely usable. I'd have to actually try it between a chair back and the A-Frame slats to see if it could really be used all season at NRL22 matches. In my experimental match with the Krait, there were no chair backs or inside-of-the-A-Frame shooting required at that particular COF so I was able to still place highly with the Krait based on mine and its performance.... but if there were chair backs and A-Frame interior shots... I'd have to cant the gun sideways (and almost certainly miss) due to its height.

Not sure of the price point on the Katran N but I am thinking it will be much less than the 2800 beans (or so) that the DSR ticket to play will cost ya. In any case, the Panthera is, and will always remain, an absolutely awesome choice for this style of shooting.
