A biggie item for me was to purchase a chronograph right away. Knowing how fast your gun is shooting allows you to figure all the ballistics info that you need to be sure that you get best performance and accuracy out of your gun. It also makes it much easier to diagnose a problem if one should arise

#7 - buy used has helped me figure out what i like, much cheaper and quicker than i would have other wise.

and just joining the forums in general. i've settled on AGN as the main forum i use, but i've had success in any i've tried finding helpful people who will also help you avoid going down a money pit.
