Tomorrow night hunt for two coons advice welcome!!

Good luck!! Over the past 15 years I’ve shot 18 raccoons here. My problem was getting them to hold still enough for a shot. Finally found the best way was a bowl of dry cat food positioning right would keep them in one place. And I left a light on the porch so they would be used to it. Then I have a window ajar so it will be quiet as I open it for the shot. I always have a bag on the sill to be steady, and I’ve practiced a lot of shots from the window to the bowl. Then I’ll just get set and make a tiny squeak, taking the shot in the first second or two after it looks up before it moves again. I highly recommend making them look at you and shooting off of a bag. Although at least three of those raccoons ran off as soon as I squeaked, wise older ones I figured. And like already explained...lots of flopping and blood, even with the perfect brain shot, hose down the deck that night or it’ll dry out! It’s a fun evening and pretty exciting, I gotta admit I get buck fever and have to let my heart slow down,ha ha.

My dog jumped one when I was a kid by a little pond. Had my trusty Crosman M1 with a mag full of BBs. All the M1 did was piss the coon off and when he got on my dogs back, who was in the water, things went to hell in a hurry. I knew what was going to happen and I saved the day, teeth to hand combat. Saved the dog but I went through 2 weeks of rabies shots, like getting the flu everyday. Oh I wish I had my Veteran Long back then. Moral of the story is like most wildlife they play for keeps.
