We got them with the game Camera we know what time they show up we know which way they come in so I have done my homework.

I have to figure out what pellet To use right now it’s sited in to shoot the barracuda match 21 grains. Also been think about using the 25.39 ultra shock or the En-jin 32 grain I’ll test them out tomorrow. These coons can way 30lbs and are tough so I want to hit them hard. Any advice is welcome!!

JSB 25.39 ultra shock is so underrated. At high fpe it's my go for heavy, hard hitting. 22 hunting pellets.

I’ve taken more than a few with different airguns.

Take a banana and really mash it into the ground hours before the hunt in a spot that will give you a clear shot at night (should have enough light for a shot unless using night vision). You want to have the scent in the area with a bit of liquid & mashed banana showing, but you don’t want them to be able to carry off the banana and eat it in safety. Try to take wind direction into consideration, so the breeze will carry the scent to them, based on where you usually see them.

Ive had pellets glance off their angled foreheads when they were looking at me, so I wait until they are facing me on the ground and they look down to lick the mashed banana, and put a pellet into the top of their skull. That area is kinda flat and pellets break thru easily. Sounds like an egg breaking.

I mostly used an RWS / Diana Model 52 in 22 cal, which is shooting a 14 gr pellet at about 800 fps. Also took several with a Benjamin Discovery in 22 with similar power. You should have no problem with your powerful rig.

Another favored shot is to scare them so they climb up a tree, then wait until the raccoon looks around so you can put a pellet thru the head from underneath the chin / jaw. If you shoot at an upward angle and put the pellet between the jaw bones, it goes up thru the tongue, continues up thru the pallet / roof of the mouth, and into the brain pretty easily. That raccoon will fall and most likely be squirting blood, growling, screaming & spitting, as well as snapping and clawing, with all its strength. Do not be under it when it falls, and do not let your dog get near it until it stops convulsing.

I’ve brained large raccoons in a trap with a 22 cal Crosman 150 pistol by putting a pellet into the brain thru the top of the skull without problem.
