Tuning TM1000 .177 reg./hammer spring

 Hi all, I have a RAW TM 1000 .177. It's set up for 20 ftlbs.or less. I'm in the USA, my question had to do with reg.presdure vs. hammer spring. It was tuned to shoot JSB 13.4 at 805 fps. Then it wasn't. I had to remove the reg and turn it 1/4 turn and then adjust the hammer spring just about all the way in to get it back to 805 fps. Should I turn the reg up more so I can turn the hammer spring adj. out some, or is having the hammer spring adj. screwed more in ok,? I have the Gauge set up I bought from the UK to set reg. pressure but didn't use it because I had no idea what it should have been set to so just turned it in 1/4 turn as recommended by a RAW factory video. Did I do it right, or should I increase reg. pressure and decrease hammer spring to keep me where I want? Thanks for any help or advice.

Yes, I would increase the regulator pressure and decrease the hammer. Power should generally come from the regulator not the hammer. The hammer should be just strong enough to open the valve and then quickly shut again by the regulator pressure.

If that doesn't make sense then I'd say it's a total bust and you should sell it to me "as is"!

Try @ 118 / 122 BAR FOR A .177 Shift it +/- as needed from there.

Any idea how much of a turn on the reg screw increases the pressure? The RAW knowledge base video shows HOW to adjust the reg pressure, but it doesn't really give any guidelines as to how much the pressure will change with say a 1/4 turn of the screw.

BTW, I am having the EXACT same issue with my .177cal RAW. I kept having to increase the hammer tension to maintain the speed. Now the spring is coil bound. The reg is currently set at 100 bar, so I plan to bump it up to 120 bar and see how that works.

What screw are you turning ?

You have 2 adjustments on Theoben / Raw regulators.

One being the knurled collar of the spool assembly into the body that controls seat height, Other the Nut / Hex on end of spool controlling bevel spring preload.

In the video, they show the nut being tightened while holding the inner hex bolt stationary, to increase the pressure. They just don't give any guidelines as to how much a 1/4 turn increases the pressure. Does a 1/4 turn increase the pressure 10 bar? 20 bar? ??? I'll check the pressure after I make an adjustment, but I'd like some estimate of how much tpo tighten the nut in order to increase the reg pressur by about 20 bar

did you not state you had a tester ... Thats how ! As too how much change per turn etc .. no idea ?

I do have a tester. It says on the directions to screw the regulator into the tester and the buddy bottle into the regulator to set pressure. Unfortunately the oring on MY regulator that it says will seal against the tester WONT and I can't use the tester. The oring on my regulator is way to small to seal against the tester. The regulator will screw into the tester and the regulator o ring doesn't even touch the inside of the tester that it LOOKS like it should seal against. So the tester is absolutely useless but the oring on my regulator is good and seals on the rifle...but not on the tester.... WTF?

Go go get a minor service pack of metric o-rings. A 10 cent o-ring is between you and having a tester ... really ?

I don't own a Theoben, nobody I shoot air rifles with owns one, and I am the only one shooting RAW's in our group of air rifle shooters. There is absolutely zero knowledge about either of the two air rifles where I am located and not much I can find. I would think just MAYBE that information could have been addressed, thought about, touched on, or mentioned in the info. with the tester or maybe including a couple 10 cent o rings with the tester, seeing that the tester was being mailed to the USA, I would have glady paid a few dollars more for both o rings. It was obvious I needed a bigger o ring, but here in the USA, I have never heard of a minor service pack of metric o rings. If I knew the correct size I would buy them from o rings and more for a few dollars. I could have taken the tester and gauge to a hardware store and tried to find one that would fit, but said f**k it, and turned the nut 1/4 turn and put it all back together. Maybe by the next time I need to use it, I will have the correct metric o ring.
