TM 1000 Valve Help

Nation,

I had a leak in my TM 1000, would not hold air, air went down the barrel. This indicated a bad valve. I have several spare valves, and have replaced them in the past, but I don't remember how.....it was that long ago, as I have one of the earlier models at #92. I was able to remove the air tube, the regulator, the blank plug that goes over the bronze air filter, spring and valve (which was bent) and the valve body. Cleaned everything, new valve o rings all around.

I go to put the valve in, and it won't go in far enough for the outside grub screw to engage with the detention in the valve body for the grub screw. The bolt will not cock all the way back, like something else has to be set, or released in order to get the hammer back, so the valve fits back in.

As I said, I've done this once before, but I don't remember the trick/process involved. I was hoping to get it back together to test tomorrow, but if that don't happen, it's no biggie, I'll have to wait.

Thanks in advance,

Coldair,

I watched the video, it was a little help, but for whatever reason, the bolt is still stopping halfway back, and I can't get the valve to go in far enough for the grub screw to engage with the proper slot in the valve body. The video shows disassembly, but not reassembly. I think there is a little trick to it, but I don't remember.....

Anyone that can steer me in the proper direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you try to call Martin if he still answers his phone because I am sure he will be happy to walk you through it. You have one of his babies...

If not and no one here can answer then I suggest you inquire at a UK forum with the same question beause I think the design are still very similar to the modern RAWs.

Someone may know or maybe even BEN Taylor or Dave THEobald from the original THEO-BEN my be reading. I would think that at least the BEN part of the duo still works on them.

Coldair,

I just figured it out just before reading this post. I took the hammer springs out, stuck my finger inside the hammer spring chamber, pressed down on the sear as I gently pulled the bolt handle back. Reinstalled the valve, put it all back together. Juiced it up, and had a small leak where one of the blank plugs are. Waited for it to loose all the air, replaced that o ring, and fed it again. All good, holds air, and everything cycles well.

I'll leave it for a day, and see if it still holds. Other than that, I'll have to wait for the weekend before running it through its paces.

Thanks for your help, trying counts,

Tom Holland
