Just to add.... I had great success with a progressive introduction. Started with airsoft guns, shooting a variety of targets. They were all good/natural shooters so we progressed to crosman co2 rifles fairly quickly. (they still have the custom shop 2400's I got them for Christmas 8-9 years ago). I did initial set up then worked with each to zero their own gun/scope, then plastic figures, cans, caps, and paintballs became the target norm for a couple years. There were usually just 3 of us at a time and we shot side by side off a couple of portable folding tables. Our favorite game became racing to cut soda cans (completely) in half. Sometimes we bet a hotdog dinner vs a salad with chicken. The 2 of them vs me, sometimes on the total number of shots to drop the bottom part of the can, sometime on the timer alternating 2min per shooter.
They shoot my guns now but not as often as I would like. My son is a lefty my daughter is a righty (but cant use her right eye) so there are some hurdles. They still shoot almost as well as I do but their interests have drifted toward college friends and boys/girls. I still shoot 10m pistol with my son from time to time. Not sure I made future airgunners out of them but they understand my passion. Not sure I did as well with the stepkids. They had fun, but needed prodding to come back for more.
