Three PCP’s That Shoot Two Types of Ammo! It’s a TRIPLE DOUBLE !!

Hello AirgunNation Peoples,

Power mods, slug liners, and harmony tunes created three PCP’s that shoot pellets and slugs quite well! It’s a “TRIPLE DOUBLE”! I believe I’ll be pulling the parking brake and stopping right here on tunes, modifications, and accessories on my DreamPup (.22), Wildcat MKII (.25), and Crown (.25).

Did I just say that??

Yep, I think so! They repeatedly give me the same predictable performance and accuracy each time I use them. I have created distance hold charts for them (practically memorized them all). They’re scoped, zeroed in, and have everything I would want to bolt onto them. Frankly, I don’t want to throw any more money at them, except for ammunition.

I chronograph’d each one with their most accurate pellets and slugs. After some final hammer spring tweaks. Then, shot some groups 10 shots @ 100 yards with the same pellets and slugs. Just my normal non-serious leisure trigger time fun session at the home range. Thought that I would share the results with you guys. In their respective caliber they all sport 600mm slug liners.

The wind was (left to right):

I realize the JSB 18.13g are shooting “hot”, but I see no accuracy difference if I click down my hammer tension and shoot them at 880fps. The gun is a hunter so I like the power and flat trajectory way better. They are stable and fly true @ 975fps. Field tested multiple times. Several headshot squirrels, rabbits, doves, and starlings all would agree!

10 shot groups will make a honest man out of you. They’ll tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. What you’re doing and what the gun is doing. I see a obvious left to right wind push, but thats to be expected with the days wind conditions. The elevation POI was nothing to complain about. Also, the pellets seemed a bit more precise at least for this session (pellet groups held tighter). Go figure? Anyways, just displaying the final results after several hours and dollars of mods and tune work I’ve done on my “Triple Double” PCP’s. to reach pellet and slug shooting equality. Probably should have just bought a Impact, but the journey was worth it. I’d do it all over again..

JoeKool,

Wow! Great shooting and great presentation. I know that represents the fruit of a lot of hard labor tuning and dialing in.

I've noticed the same thing in my .22 Crown 700mm slug liner when shooting the JSB 18.13g. There is no measurable accuracy difference at 100yds, whether shooting them at 870fps up to 930fps. And as you noted, the faster, the flatter the tragectory.

Just curious, have you tried the 25.39 Monster RDs in .22? I can barely get a group to stay on a target at 100yards with either the pellet or slug liner.

Your .25 Wildcat is tight too. Mine will group about the same with 25g Kings when it's calm, but not in a 10 mph wind!

Great that you've found slugs that with group well in all the guns too. I'd say you have all your bases covered.

Joe, those are 3 beautiful FX lasers! You nave then tuned perfectly for shooting both pellets and slugs and it shows in your 100yd groups! No need to do anymore tinkering! Very nice shooting sir! Enjoy

Thanks, tinkering is an addiction.

The JSB .22 Redesigned Monsters are very very accurate out to 50 yards from my DreamPup. But, beyond 50 yards out to 100 yards the random shot spirals and goes wild. Due to their shallow wasp waist and rearward center of mass they need to fly faster, maybe near or beyond 1000 fps to really stabilize. I have been contemplating buying a 600mm Crown .22 Super-Light barrel kit for my Crown .25. I know with the power my Crown has it could push them @1000fps plus, but I can’t justify $400 dollars to prove out one projectile. Especially when it is a even deadlier beast in .25 already. My Crown can launch Air Arms 25.4g and JSB King 25.39g @ 1030fps on “MAX” HS and .25/.30 transfer port settings. But, I dial the HS down to “3” and shoot them @ 950fps normally. I almost pulled the trigger a few times on that .22 600mm Crown barrel kit. I’ve put it in my online shopping cart and then deleted it over and over again, lol! Buying airgun parts and mods is also an addiction.

Please don't hate my comment, but what's the point of shooting slugs if they are not more accurate than pellets. I'd take your pellet groups any day over the slugs. In fact I'd say none of your guns are slugs shooters.

No offense taken, you are right these groups illustrate smaller overall group size from the pellets versus the slugs. There are times when I shoot that the group size results are completely reversed and slug groups are smaller. Blame it on me, the wind, or the gun. Slugs are not made of magic and every shot will not go through the same hole all the time, every time. A lot of folk’s slug shooting airguns perform much better than mine do, but there will be great groups and poor ones at times with anyone and any gun. The benefits to shooting slugs IMO is their higher BC and expansion on impacting quarry. They expand, cause extensive damage, dump great amounts of energy on impact, and put down quarry quickly. So the point of shooting slugs are for those results, and I am getting those results in the field. I will say though, that I use pellets most of the time still, but it’s cool to pop something hard with a slug!

Thanks for the honest comment! 👍🏽
