Three Airguns being torture tested

Several years ago I came up with the idea for the "Airgun Survival Challenge" where I would take several different brands of Airguns and test them for durability. Since first introducing this idea I had many set backs that kept me from producing anything, mainly Covid and my responsibilities at home with a newborn. Several months ago I was finally able to start production of this project that I had anticipated being controversial and would most likely end my career as a reviewer. I look at the firearm industry where torture testing is nothing new, figured why not do something similar with Airguns. So far it's been a very interesting project and can only hope it will be perceived as both educational and entertaining.

Like and appreciate the video. But that is some harsh treatment of some fine PCPs. But to what end? They are not battle rifles, heck I wouldn't treat my ARs or Glocks that way. In typical use (mishaps aside) how harshly are some people going to treat their north of 1.5K PCPs?

I think showing durability is very important, I was able to learn where some improvements could be made to each gun. Anything can do well sitting at a bench being handled like a delicate toy, those that use them in the field might appreciate these test more than others.

Interesting choice of tests.

1. The rapid cocking would sorta simulate a long life with a person that didn't much care about his/her equipment.

2. The hot water. Hot...not so much. but being dropped in a cold running river, sure.

3. The shroud / barrel bend...useless test, not found in nature. Not unless the gun was dragged, barrel down, behind a vehicle for a few miles !

4. Hammer spring adjuster. Maybe. A long time torture test, as in a coupla years.

5. Safety manipulation, see #4 comment.

Seems more realistic testing - (This computer has no sound, so forgive me if the above tests were noted as just random tortures).

1. Falling off of a pickup truck tailgate to the dirt.

2. Filling the air cylinder repeatedly, quickly (over-heating the incoming air).

3. Falling into a running river.

4. Being run over by a vehicle (Ed did it to his Lelya..!).

5. See #3, then toss some dirt into the receiver while still wet. (note, the magazine should keep the probe clean !).

6. Repeated, rapid cocking, and firing. But not as HARD as the above test.

I had to cover my eyes when you were testing the barrel flex. Ouch!!!!! Crazy. I had a feeling the Evol would do well. I own a few myself and after just those few tests I am really glade I got them. Keep up the great work. I love watching your videos.

Are you going to let Marley chew on any of the guns? That might be a good test for them. LOL

haha no but she might fetch one like a stick

Great video, did you base your tests on people's reported use & abuse? or did you just decide to go for it and mosh on them ? reminded me of the old samsonite commercial were the gorilla rips on the suitcase. Either way that was not easy to watch, kinda like a vasectomy video! Maybe a cold gun test for us frozen tundra shooters? Thanks for your efforts in putting this together.

Great video work. The intro was a little long.

I liked 2 of the tests. The barrel shroud bending was unscientific. If you were trying to simulate the moderator getting caught between tree branches then a simple hunting scale should've been used to apply the same pressure the same # of times. Or a brick tied to the butt and dropped the same # of times.

Otherwise I enjoyed watching that!

I LIKE IT BUT THE BARREL TEST REALLY IS CRAZY DONT THINK ANY PCP WILL BE TESTED LIKE THAT IN THE FELD UNLESS YOUR A REAL DUMB ASS

Well I dropped one of mine coming down a tree, at least 8 feet drop and landed barrel first, ...didn't even lose zero, so I appreciate Dana's testing.

Not everyone babies their airguns and take them from the safe to the bench and back :) :)

+1

It’s not about what you would do. People don’t drive into brick wall at 70 mph. They do this in testing with test dummies though. It’s called finding limits.

The example of dropping a gun from a tree or elevated stand is a good one. Ish happens……a lot! Good to know.
