Other thoughts on "tactical" vs traditional rifle

I have an AEA Zeus .58 tactical and Dragon Claw 2 traditional .50 I thought I would use the Zeus much more than I have but I am so used to the look and feel of a traditional rifle that I find my self picking up the Dragon Claw almost every time I go shooting or hunting. Just wondering about others experiences with this. Not sure if this is just an "age thing" I am 60 and only in the last couple years started bigger game hunting with an airgun as something different than my ballistic rifle.

"tactical"

I really despise this look . Reminds me of the Armed Forces , and the Karen's think your carrying a "AR" killing machine . I would bet if you set up a table in a Mall with 10 tactical guns on it AND 9 of them were Air guns , 99 percent of the people would say they are ALL AR15's military guns designed to kill .

Yes i know the tactical stock is designed to be rugged , easily exchange parts of a real "AR " and have a working gun again in the battle field .
Reminds me of when i was a kid and wanted a real looking 6 shooter cowboy gun and Daisy complied .

LOL, but what do you "really" think :) I have a bit of those thoughts and all of the things you expressed went thru my head when I 1st opened the box with mine. That said, I like having the big bore but, I am finding the .50 traditional rifle is just far more comfortable and functional for me. I kind of regret going tactical with the Zeus, but, blame it on newbie ignorance. I spent a lot of time looking thru the forums and like you said there are sooo many of them out there I figured I must be missing out on something.

I dunno, each is an island to itself. I have a Dream Tac and love it. Had a Notos and loved it.
I have a Brk Sniper, love the semi bullpup style too
I also have a Wildcat, love the bullpup.
I have a Crown, love traditional rifles too.

I just can't say what I'd do if I had to choose. Probably stay with traditional and keep the Crown, but the otehrs would be awfully hard to part with and on any given day that could change.

Like the traditional wood mauser look, but the lego style black rifle won me over in the 90's while in the SD NG ... doesn't matter if we are talking fire or air. I don't mind a touch of wood highlights on the tactical rifles. If I could only have one, definitely on the tactical side as it hits many more categories for all around use hands down. I'm near 53 years old. Nice stock with lots of character ... oh, difficult to resist! Regardless, I like many of the rifles out there ... too many ;)

Kind of why I started the post! I kind of / sort hate to give it up but like I said I keep gravitating towards my Dragon Claw mostly because of look and feel. I am seriously thinking about maybe parting with my Zeus and thinking about either selling or trading for something more traditional looking and most likely in a smaller caliber. Just curious about thoughts of others.

According to my wife, I always have too many!

“Tactical”….grrrrrrrrrr! Make me king for a day and I’d have that word stricken from the English language.

Given the above definition, what on God’s great, green earth could be “tactical” about an air rifle, or, for that matter, 90% of all products labeled tactical (think tactical socks, tactical underwear, etc)? Anybody here going to be clearing buildings or trenches with a tactical airgun? To be fair though, one could probably clear buildings and trenches with a suitably soiled pair of tactical underwear…

The vast majority of products with “tactical” in their title are anything but, and are nothing more than a marketing ploy making use of a word that sounds kinda cool.

If you like the tactical look, rock on, brother! But in my humble…ahem…opinion, the usefulness of guns/rifles that are truly tactical, or designed to look tactical, doesn’t carry over well to other applications such as hunting or shooting from the bench.

And don’t even get me started on the word “operator”…

Rant over.

I think you nailed what has been bugging me when you said "character" with reference to a nice stock. It reminds me of going out hunting with my grandfather back in the 60's and using his pump 22.

I love wood "furniture" on a gun! My FX Royale 500 & my FX Boss are my favorites. Even the new to me Edgun Matador r3 long has wood vs metal stock. There's just something personal about handling a gun that has a nicely worked piece of wood in my hands & cheek weld. Maybe it's because I'm old too (73).
I just can't get used to all metal parts. Not pleasing aesthetically either.

For field use and general manipulation, I prefer the tacts… love the feel of the pistol grip. Shooting from ether side, etc… I do like traditional rifles the bulk of my PB rifles are tradtional… just prefer the versatility and ease of adding what you need and leaving out what you don’t…

I like both. For a hunting gun I prefer a traditionally styled rifle. They are more comfortable to carry and point. For target shooting I prefer a gun with a vertical pistol grip. Especially when shooting prone or from a bench.

When FX came out with the DRS tactical there seemed to be a few people who were against the AR15ish style to it. And they didn’t just think it was ugly. They almost seemed to be offended by it. I don’t understand why.
