Thoughts on my bench setup between impact and crown

Been shooting pass 100 yards lately with both my crown and impact. After some tinkering and upgrades I’m am beginning to lean toward my crown more and more. Simply isn’t feeling it with the impact, it’s way too hold sensitive thanks to the chassis being way too flexible. The ergonomics of crown just feels better on the bench because I don’t care how long the guns is. Starting to feel like the impact is a much better carry gun than bench gun. After hundreds of dollars in upgrade it’s still not quite how I like it while the crown is just sublime with the ST chassis. While the power is impressive I think I’m going to change my Impact back to a compact carry gun again.

what are your thoughts and experience with Impact as bench gun?

Bullpup main advantage is shorter overall length and came from CQB. As much as I love my impact it is not as pleasant or as easy to shoot at higher power. Too bad Impact doesn’t have a more rigid rear frame/chassis like how Delta wolf’s frame or at least by look, it needs a true structure section to make the frame far more rigid. Everyone’s experience seems to correlate to mine, pretty sure I’ll tune it down and configure it to be a more compact hunter.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and have a great weekend!

I popped into the 800 yard range with my .270 in October to do some long range shooting with the guys. Still not seeing any bullpups. Seems only airgunners are confused or in denial. I still refuse to buy a Crown because I don’t want all my other guns to become dust collectors.

OMFG!! ROFLAO!!! I made the mistake of getting 2 crowns so my impact, dreamtac and pretty much all other guns have been collecting dust. If only I had your foresight!!! 😅😂🤣

To be fair my impact is easy sub MOA at 100 yards still if I turn down the power a little but defeats the purpose of the Impact and crowns are still better. If only they get more power to the crown with a MUCH bigger plenum or redesign impact with a far better chassis system, it’s long over due IMHO. BUT it is still stellar in many ways so not sure when they will redesign the chassis, in the mean time mine will get detuned and turned into a compact hunter like it is designed to be very soon. Decision now is compact/600mm barrel or super compact/500mm barrel……leaning towards 500mm super compact. 🤔

I went down that road twice, finally pulled the plug on my M3 .30 and .25 700mm Impact setups that I had hoped would be sub MOA at 100 and let me reach out to 200+ with all the cool kids on Youtube. Moved to an M2 .177 500m setup (love it), sold the long range kit.

Back to my 22 LR for long range, until .25 slugs with a better BC hit the market. Somebody must be conjuring up something a bit longer that will fly around 0.15 or better. Hesitating to pick up a Crown as the action will be too short for the longer slug I'm hoping for.

I have a 600mm and 500mm Impact. What projectile do you plan to shoot? If you remember we had some discussions in other topics about pressures. I have some pretty definitive results with both guns that you might find interesting and will save you some lead.

I’m weird and it’s a FX so here is my plan:

- .22 hades at 600FPS for squirrels on HS lowest setting

- .22 hades @700fps on a middle HS setting for skunks/coons

- finally 23g NSA around 800-850 fps on highest HS for hunting rabbits out on the plains.

I need this to be repeatable so no adjustment of the valve spring once set, no idea if that’s possible without crown’s TP settings though.

Tuning plan:

reg at 150 bars

remove slug power kit except the pin probe but might have to go back to stock probe to get to the lower speed

Guessing the valve knob will need to be at around 3 lines or a touch lower for the 500mm barrel

Will see how it will turn out, more fun tuning at the range though. 😁

If shooting off a bag, the impact need some aftermarket bagrider. The standard "stock" is really not suited for a bench setup. Also having a extended rail, or a bottle clamp, for a bipod, makes it easier. The crown in that respect is probably easier.

tried all that:

for sure keeping the adjustable cheek riser though.

edit: gotta love FX guns as toys, took whopping 15 minutes to strip it down. Will take out the spacers and put back the valve spring later tonight.

Yep, just a bunch of cheap custom $5k bolt actions so far.

yeah man, you need to find yourself some better/richer friends and shooting pales!🤣

can you imagine this happens to a bullpup?

Impact has tremendous potential but needs a much better chassis now it has more than doubled the original designed power output. I’d they do what @covid_hunter says and make the rear section a solid piece/chassis then it has huge potential. For airguns to gain enough power to shoot far a long barrel is unavoidable so a bullpup is ideal if done right and the Impact has plenty of room for improvement.

If you’re talking about a 500mm, I think your plan is anything but weird. It’s actually realistic, which I guess is weird considering what I’ve been seeing lately. You definitely want to ditch the slug kit and even the probe. It just isn’t necessary with the 500mm. The 850fps at 150b will work out and it will do it sitting on the knee. Then you can try to work down. I agree, having a TP wheel would definitely be beneficial.

thanks, I remember the 500mm barrel taps out at around 880fps with 150 bars and dual transfer port with NSA 23 grain. I had great luck with the 23 grain NSA as low as 820fps so I’m not too worry about the upper limit, the lower speed goal might be a bit harder but hoping the high reg pressure helps with the low speed but won’t know till I try it.
