This Looks I Dunno, Beautifully Painful?

Might be fun to shoot once or twice, but I don’t know how heavy this thing is. I also have no idea about what the recoil feels like on one of these. https://xp-airguns.com/the-xp-bullpup I like the look of this rifle aside from the thin bag-rider looking strip (that I hope is not wood) running between the grip and the thick end of the butt.
To me the allure of the bullpup is compactness which contributes to ease of carry and maneuverability in the field. With this behemoth I’m wondering if that’s achievable. Any other members have a different perspective here?

Think about it. Each slug weighs well over (1oz) 437.5 grains.
I believe the .72 caliber slugs are around 500 grains.
I don’t want to send 1lb down range in less than 12 shots.

My .257 is hard enough with perfect follow through when sending 72 at 980-1080fps.
Edit: I bought my Scandalous knowing full well it’s main usage leant it to be a long, very heavy rifle meant for shooting prone or benched while tethered targets

That’s 5 at 102 yards in 18*f windy weather. 2 clicks left, 5 more. I’m only shooting paper though, Possibilty small varmints. I personally have no need for a .72

EDIT: Hunting, yes, especially in countries that only allow airguns. But I’m going to tell AEA my advice. Advertising any of these as SD is a huge mistake & the hardcore airgun community will shun them on that mistake alone.

If you can’t keep sub 1/4” moa at 100 don’t bother going further until it/you can

I foresee this AEA company helping to get all airguns regulated.

@JamesD I’m thinking if a person hunts moose or some big African game like a Cape Buffalo or hippopotamus this may be appropriate, but on deer it seems like overkill and it will destroy a lot of meat. I haven’t done any black powder muzzle loader hunting so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I have no idea how this would do hunting animals with thick fur and a significant amount of fat like bison or bear, but I’m curious.

You folks realize that .72 cal is the same as a 12 ga shotgun, right? Get that MV up to about 1350 and you'll be looking at similar muzzle energy and recoil.

It was discussed in a video where a group of big-bore airgun hunters went on a group hunt. Here’s the link to said video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xYJ6rglgnKo The .72 in this video is the Zeus I believe. So equating the bore size to that of a 12 gauge slug I’ve heard. I don’t recall seeing this particular XP rifle in use. As for the muzzle energy and recoil I don’t know.

The XP has a little less enery than the Zeus. So something like @1200fpe (the valve system and is a little less efficient).

A 12 gauge is a nominal .729'ish so they are the same caliber.

For an airgun its a complete beast but for a powderburner its quite mild.

The Zeus will push a 700grain slug at some 290m/s~950fps from a 32" barrel. A standard 12 gauge slug cartridge is rated in the 1150-1250fps region.

From my rifled pump in 12 gauge 24" i can push a 700grain slug at some 600m/s~1950fps. Now that rattles your fillings severely!!!

As a leftie i think the first pull of the trigger the loading lever/handle will knock most of my remaining teeth out :-(

So no bullpup for me.

12 gauge slugs are normally around .690 diameter, you will find them much to small to go down a Zeus. I've read that Zeus likes .729 ammo. You might be able to use shotgun slugs in a shot cup, much like a sabot, but not certain.

Nah! Thats for the slug fitting inside a 12 gauge shotshell not the slug itself.

How many 12 gauge slug shooters do you load for yourself?

Take a look here:

As i clearly stated: A 12gauge bore is sometning like .729"

Thats because of the throating in shotguns to "gather" or pact the pellet swarm.

Most all 12 gauge shotguns has a "coke"

In all terms the manufactors need to make ammo that adhere to the bare minimumm specs to avoid sues over blown guns.

But please do enlighten us all to your experinces loading true 12 gauge / .729" shots.
