The old 15.5g and 18g slugs work very well at 20fpe+ for me already. The 12.5 at 12fpe would be icing on the cake. I should be able to get 24/25fpe so it will be interesting for sure. As for capturing them I'm not sure I can get a water bag pass though set up but there is a 1" stall matt at 60yd to stop them. The older style would expand fully against the matt, never penetrating. Meanwhile 10.3g AA heavies will zip through at the same energy(from the muzzle).

In my current rig the 12.5's are zipping threw the chrony at @ 910 fps being @ 23 ft lbs where accuracy is very very good. In my testing over the last couple weeks with Pre-production .177 slugs in 12.5 / 15 / 17.5 & 21 grains shooting threw IN-LINE stacked liter water bottles ... NONE really opened up that well.

The 12.5 at @ 1040 fps and 15's @ 960's failed to impress in WATER .... denser flesh is yet to be tested.

Scott, 😊

I might be wrong, but I though I read somewhere that water when hit by anything this fast like a projectile reacts almost like a "solid," whereas flesh is "softer" (not sure that's the right word).

Whatever the physical properties might be (I hated physics class, thank you Mr. Teacher) — hollow points open up a lot more in water than in flesh (unless they hit bone of course).

Just saying.... I'm very appreciative of this forum's airgunners spending the money and running tests for us in ballistic gel — which seems to be closer to HP terminal performance in flesh. 👍🏼👍🏼

Ok ... big zip-loc bag with water being @ 6" thick with a folded up towel behind to catch it after the fact.

.177 slug at 12.5 grains @ 910 fps PASSED RIGHT ON THREW with ZERO expansion getting more damage via stopped by the fabric of the towel than the water.

Same result as with bottles in line. Advantage is a much improved BC over a pellet, but if looking for flesh damage in game ... JURY IS STILL OUT until we get some actual game recovery data.

Here ya go. All testing done at 55yds using my AA S500, standard twist LW barrel with choke. The winds were light, 1-3mph. I did not hold for them. I did not check tail size, clean or lube the slugs.

After initial testing the 12.5g gave the best results. That's what you'll see used in the today's testing. However in the next test I'll sort for tail size. Also note these are a bit harder loading than the older version.

The top target seems self explanatory. The bottom target was shot at 810fps.

This was a quick control target shot afterwards with 13.4g redesigned monsters.
