Thermal scope recommendations

I have been watching these thermal hunting videos and was wondering if there are any that will pick up small animals like rats rabbits etc. at 100 yds or less? I am also not a person who likes all the gadgets of electronics so is there a very simple to use thermal scope that gives a good image?

Aloha Makoda,

I was looking at 2 thermal scopes. Pulsar Thermion XM50 and ATN Thor 4, after a lot of contemplation I went with the ATN Thor 4 1.5x15 I have played with the scope the last couple of days, I have not mounted it on my gun yet. I wanted to get familiar with it first, but I can tell you I can pick up piglets at 50 yards clearly.

Aloha,

Keone

Most thermal scopes are used for pig, coyote, and humans. The lenses are extremely expensive and higher magnification means bigger lenses.

A rat at 100 yards would be challenging for most thermal scopes.

The high magnification thermal scopes are the FLIR PTS 536 and 736, Trijicon IR Hunter 60mm, and N-Vision Halo LR.

Also consider the difficulty of rangefinding at night.
