Umarex THE ZELOS IS AMAZING

I just got the Snowpeak M60B version of the Zelos from Airgun Archery Fun in Canada. Out of the box shooting .177 CPHP's it was hitting 1025 fps at 1500 psi on the regulator. I didn't have time to shoot a whole mag while zeroing my scope. The lowest I could get was 925 fps at 800 psi on the regulator. I've read on the forum mid 700 fps was the sweet spot for accuracy for .177 CPHP's. Wes has stated the difference between the .22 Snowpeak M60 and Zelos was that the barrel length on the Snowpeak M60 is about 2 inches shorter and comes with metal magazines. Last time I checked Wes had the 495 fps and full power version in .177 in stock. I didn't have to pay any tariff fee, but who knows if that will change in the future.
A Federal court judge shut down TARRIFS.

I have really been enjoying the Zelos action. I have three setups I am working on - I have a .25 pellet barrel (19.6" FX ST 14mm OD barrel), .25 Slug barrel (700mm FX Slug liner), and just finished another action with a .30 FX ST 19.6" 14mm OD barrel. I am not using an external plenum, and have gotten each of them into the high 70-mid 80ft/lb range working at 1950-2200psi on the reg. (lower for .25). I am not sure how much more velocity they may offer, as I stopped where they are due to hitting my desired performance. For me, the biggest hindrance to getting a really good tune out of these actions is the monster strong valve/poppet spring. Once I was able to replace that with a lighter spring, I was able to use a lighter hammer spring and less preload to achieve higher velocities with less wasted air. I still have an original full diameter FX Smooth Twist barrel in .22 to fit up.

Blackdog,

Got a link for the plenum you have? Your assessment of it?

6Gun,

I haven't seen a .177 listed by Umarex anywhere. Snopeak through Airgun & Archery Fun lists the M60 (basically the same gun) in .177 though.

Has anyone with the Zelos/M60 in .177 tried the JSB MK3 knockout slugs? Jacespace reports great results hunting with these.

Perle,

Love that handy looking Zelos Shortie you've got.

What's the barrel length and what kind of fps are you getting with it?

Thanks,

Jerry

The Zelos design has been around long enough to have no worries about its performance. The bullpup designs are not a joy to shoot as compared to a standard air rifle but they are easy to manage in close spaces with their much shorter length.

I was impressed with my .22 that puts a 14g pellet through an inch thick piece of rubber with ease at a distance of 60 feet. I do like the 20 round magazines that are standard for the rifle.

I haven't taken off my pressure gauge but typically the port for the pressure gauge is flow Limited for safety it has just a pinhole to vent the pressure to the gauge. If that is the case for the zelos having a plenum installed in that port is not ideal because the flow rate is limited. To get better flow you would have to drill out that hole to a larger size.

Virtually useless installed there.
Plenum port should be close to barrel inner diameter

Not endorsing the plenum discussed here one way or the other, but the through hole in the side of the Zelos where it mounts is threaded m8 x 1, and has a 7mm min. bore diameter. The flow limiting into the gauge is the small hole on the gauge itself.

I got it just to try something. I had a lot of problems between the plenum and the Huben bottle regulator.Leaks one after another. Finally went back to tube ( I like the looks and grabbing place) with plenum. It did gain 25 fps without changing anything else

A little plenum is a good thing. A lot of plenum is a great thing. The difference, 125cc plenum on my .25 Condor I get 880FPS with 30gr H&N AT 1750PSI.
The 50cc plenum on the Huben Power MAX-ATH required 2000psi to hit 880fps.

At 2700psi with 125cc it went supersonic.

But the plenum supplied enough air to keep the pellet under acceleration for the length of a 24 inch barrel
