The wait is almost over...

Man, I wish the Baracuda Hunter Extremes came in .357. I used to shoot them in my Daystate Pulsar .25. They mushroomed like nobody's business and my Pulsar really liked 'em! Plus, they would fit in the RAW's mag. This baby was pulled out of an unlucky bunny's chest cavity:

Here's the selection in Mr. Hollowpoint's party pak (75 gr through to 120 gr). There's 10 each of each weight. The fit & finish is stellar and they actually have a better weight SD than the JSBs!:

I received a small tube of those 145gr Nosler Ballistic Tips when I bought my Bulldog and those shot pretty good at 50 yards so I was kinda going with that on a heavier bullet for the RAW, think I read somewhere that a 95gr or 118gr shot ok 50-75 yards but can't remember, I need to go back and re read some articles and see if that is indeed what I read and it pertained to the RAW...I'm sure you have read a lot of different articles about the RAW also and if your like me you have forgotten most of what you have read hahaha dang age thing.
I am starting to stock up on the 81.02gr JSB diabolo pellets with what I just ordered I will have 15 total tins of them and I'm not done, think I'll order 8 more next week then I'll take a break for a few weeks heeheehee.

Yeah, that's a sweet one. I like the size of the hollowpoint while still maintaining the conical shape. That's 116 gr. They are all pure lead. The last three on the right will not fit in the RAW mag.

From left to right: 75 gr; 80 gr; 85 gr; 85 EPPG (whatever that is); 93 gr; 100 gr; 116 gr; 120 gr

I'm sure Robert will throw together any mix sample pack you want. He's a great guy and is a real craftsman.

Thanks, I've read on other threads that the 45 cal likes the EPP 168gr swag bullets, think it has to do with How it's casted, top ridge sits higher then the regular cast bullets, might stabilize it better. But that 116gr has my attention along with number 4, think 85 might work well. I was just about to email Nielsen(NSA)and ask if he made anything for the RAW but then you put up that party pac and that caught my eye. Still might send Nielsen Specialty Ammo a email asking about a .357 bullet for the RAW.

The 80s and 85s are probably the best bets. They are closest to the weight for which the RAW regulated is tuned. Plus, they should fit in the mag. Keep in mind, these rounds are experimental in the new RAW .357 regulated. Robert even spotted me shipping because he has no data on the RAW and I told him I would give him a review :). It was $35 for the 80 bullets. That's not bad for custom cast rounds. I am really interested in finding a good hollwpoint that groups well out to 100 yards.

From the academic research I've done, almost any good cast bullet (as opposed to diabolo) will group well out to 50 yards at subsonic velocities out of a typical air rifle 16" twist rate barrel. Beyond 50 yds is where the bullets tend to become unstable. But, the main reason I bought the RAW .357 (130 ft-lbf regulated) was to have an effective small/medium game rifle out to 100 yards. But, I have fun trying new projectiles. There's always the chance that I will find a cracker jack round. I have confidence though that the JSBs and Polymags will serve me well. And new rounds hit the market from time to time. I'd like to say I'm a patient man, but nothing could be further from the truth!

Yes, ask around. Competition is your friend! There are many specialty boutiques out there.

Last two nights on the lake we have had some really good fireworks going off, its like this every year. We stopped buying fireworks years ago and just sit on our deck and watch everyone else light them off, saves about 4-500 dollars a year for us hahaha.

I will be waiting to see how the bullets you got work and go from there, that 93 is the same as the 85 epp just solid, hope you find those shoot good out to 75 yards or even 100.

Yeah, there's plenty of knuckleheads blowin' their fingers off here, too! It's God's way of weedin' out the stupid gene. Thank God for holidays; they are the chlorine of the gene pool!

I like to zero and range a few good rounds; that way something is always available. With my Hawke Sidewinder and Chairgun, I can mark the respective zeros and print-out range cards. That way I can switch ammo on-the-fly. It really pays to invest in good optics.

I will try the different bullets, but the science of ballistics doesn't lie. They may be alright out to 50 yards, but beyond that it's gonna be chaos I fear.

MrHollowpoint retuned my email and I'm going to be ordering a few different size bullets to tryout in the RAW when I get it so now I need to get my ducks in a row for when I order it, Next week sounds good to me hahaha.

Went out to my other property and the storm last night destroyed my canopy I had over my picnic table so now I need to figure out what to do,think it's time to do the 4x4 post and plywood roof project, will see what happens because that gets to be kind of a permanent shelter type deal.

I'm leaning towards the Blue Laminate stock, it would make it more personal and I'm not that worried about dinging it up from hunting.
Navy wouldn't take me back in 79 due to a head trauma I had in 78, told me to come back in 10 years, by 88 I was married with two children, I should of joined the reserves and I kick myself for not doing it. My dad was Navy/Air Force back in 41-44, ended up a 50cal gunner on a B24 stationed in Europe. Enlisted the Day after Pearl Harbor. Was stationed in California, flew out on a training mission one night and ended up in Europe.
We have more storms coming through tonight.........was 88 today but felt like 95 with 60% humidity.

Good choice. If it wouldn't be for the camo consideration, I probably would have picked the Wine/Blue laminate. In fact, I'm a little disappointed that the Forest laminate doesn't have streaks of blue in it; just a touch. I really like that.

Hey, not a day goes by that I don't revisit the choices I've made in life. I am living vicariously through my son's career in the Navy. He did the right thing and went in as an officer. I got stoned at 17 with a buddy and we joined the Navy! I certainly don't regret doing it. Even though I went in as an enlisted man and spent only one hitch in, it still was one of the best decisions I ever made. Time of my life! But, I have stopped beating myself up about the decisions I've made. They are sunk costs, and they actually define who I am. I fantasize about being given a do-over; but you know what? I've decided to just learn from my so-called mistakes and move on.

Good luck with those storms. Even though I love SoCal and wouldn't live anywhere else at this stage of my life, there are certain aspects of Pennsylvania that I really miss. (Although the weather isn't one of them!) The hunting, fishing, and trapping was off-the-hook! (or ON-the-hook, as it were :)). And the countryside is absolutely gorgeous; especially in the fall when the leaves change color. I miss having a big garden in my backyard and being able to simply stroll out in the woods and start blasting. But, we rolls da dice 'n takes our chances, right?

This is about North Carolina, but the feeling's the same for me:

The four seasons are great as a kid (or if you're raising a family): Swimming and baseball in the summer, sledding and ice hockey in the winter; no real responsibilities. But after my kids were grown, I hit the road, Jack! Being late for work and coming out to find a quarter inch of ice on my windshield got old REAL quick! We have two seasons down here in SoCal: Hot summer and warm summer!
