"Imold"
Ok let's see if I can explain it how I'm thinking. I'll start with why I'm leaning towards unregulated, I'm thinking that on a full fill and unregulated let's say I'm out hunting and I have a 100 yard shot or 90 yard shot,my feeling is if I can get a 145gr ballistic tip bullet going let's say 920 fps with a KE of 150 my chances of a clean kill are better then a 145gr bullet at say 820 and a KE of 120 even though my scope/poi is dead on either way, now this is just a example not true data but maybe close. I'll also be bench shooting with 81gr and tethered off a regulator so I'll be at a set pressure for many many shots so I don't have to worry about shots dropping, so as long as I keep info on bullet weight and what they are doing and at what pressure I should be able to get a good cheat sheet for when I'm off the tether or on tether..Maybe my 1st untethered unregulated shot with a 145gr with a 3000 psi fill will only be 915 but my next 2 will be 920 and go down from there at least I'll have that data for hunting and know what to do and then bench wount matter because I'll be tethered when shooting. This was a short and basic answer............
Now as far as the VALVE goes I'm a believer that a top of the line well built valve is the most important part inside inside a Airgun along with top shelf o-rings then a good hammer and trigger follows......
If I was never going to tether a tank with a regulator and only refill my Airgun back to maximum shooting pressure then a Regulated Airgun would be the way to go.
Once again if it doesn't work out for me I can always send it back and have a regulator put in but how do I know unless I do it..besides it only takes time and a few more bucks to regulate it.
Why not just buy the standard regulated gun, and remove the regulator valve if you want. Then just reassemble it if you decide it is not the direction you want to go. The other concern is maybe the gun can't handle full on pressure. For example...... Not tuned for the high back pressure on the hammer hitting the valve. The RAW is about the simplest gun to disassemble. Pull the bottle, pull the fill/gauge housing and along comes the regulator.
I tether all my guns on the bench. But I'm just doing it to keep the poi consistent. I just keep my pressure above the regulator or put my unregulated guns in the sweet spot. Really helps testing best speeds for different pellets if i want to adjust the regulator also.
One more thing anyone..... Get the rail! No downside to it. I love it. All guns should have them.

No, Imold; I follow your reasoning. You make a good argument, and I agree with your general analysis. One point in your facts: What unit of measurement are you using for the "KE of 150?" A 145 gr projectile with a velocity of 920 fps produces 272.47 ft-lbf (369.42 j).

On a side note, however; you may want to revisit your position regarding using bullets at 100 yards. Conventional bullets (non-diabolo) do not track well at subsonic velocities past 50 yards, especially if fired from a unregulated platform. That extra impact energy is moot if the POI is not on target.

That is a option I've already thought about but if I'm paying 2k for a Airgun I don't want to be taking it apart and besides when Martin builds it he will be shooting it to make sure it is the best of the best and when I receive it I know there will be no issues, granted being man made things can go wrong but hopefully it will shoot for years to come issue free. Plus when I order it I will go over all these issues I have with Sandra, I will go with what they believe is best for my shooting habits and maybe they will suggest going regulated but until I talk with them as of now this is how I feel I should have the Rifle built. I might be ordering it sooner rather then later just have to see what happens this week.
Just sold a Scar 17s in FDE and a Tuner for a 16 Mustang and have a guy interested in my 338 win mag, guess you could say I'm cleaning out some items I don't need or shoot anymore......
I should add that I've built and modified a few ARs over the years and at this point in my life with my health issues I really don't want to get into tearing down and modifying Airguns at this time I just would rather shoot them, just trying to keep it simple at this point in my life. Being new into the world of PCP's I can fully understand where a person could get addicted to tearing them down and rebuilding them to be better but I'm trying to avoid that addiction, just getting into PCP's is bad enough hahaha plus I don't need anymore boxes or tool boxes full of more gun parts.
I do take everyone's opinions with a open mind and think about what is said and suggested so I thank everyone for their input.

"marcella69"I'm actually hoping that is the case. That way, it leaves my options open. I'm also wondering if that plate is also a mounting plate.
It looked like a smooth plate and I'm thinking it is a optional add on being there are folks that shoot off bags and adjustable shooing bipods so they don't want nothing on the front forearm of the stock.jmo.

I was just using a basic example nothing really figured out. The only way I would shoot a animal of any size past 30 yards right now is if I had my 22-250,30-30,270 or 308 in my hands,my farthest deer kill in the last 35 years with bow be it compound, recurve or Crossbow is 28 yards so I'm not one to take long shots at animals, coyotes is a different story that's where my 22-250 comes into play.
If I get proficient with the HMx at 50 and 75 yards then you have a idea where I'm going with it. I have the 22 and 25 cal for rabbits and squirrel. Will see what happens after I talk with Sandra, maybe everything I've thought will be thrown under the bus.

I've changed my position of leaving sleeping dogs lie re the forestock picatinny rail slot. (As a Sicilian, I reserve my right to do so at any time ;-).) I've e-mailed Sandra inquiring about it. My understanding is that my stock is already finished, so I don't know if adding such a slot at this point is feasible. If it has not already been machined and it is feasible to machine one at this point, I have requested that one be added and a picatinny rail be installed. (Cripes, just another thing to delay delivery :-(.)

It's odd to me that this issue has not arisen until this point. I have not uncovered it in any marketing materials and Sandra did not inquire about it during the ordering process. I'm hoping that this is because it just comes with. We'll see.

I must disclose that my assertion that conventional bullets do not track well beyond 50 yds at subsonic velocities is based solely on academic research. I have no personal empirical evidence to support my assertion. I have bought a sample pack of cast bullets from Mr. Hollowpoint (Robert Vogel: http://www.mrhollowpoint.com/index.html) to test fire when I receive my new RAW. I must say, his workmanship is stellar! Fit and finish is excellent, and the consistency in weight is better than production pellets. Mr. Vogel's 75 gr (.35 cal.) cast bullets exhibit a weight SD of only 0.27. In contrast, JSB 81.02 gr (.35 cal.) pellets have an SD of 0.32. This data is based on my personal weighings and calculations.

I really wish my academic research is flawed, because the reason I ordered the party pak from Mr. Hollowpoint is to obtain a good hunting round (AKA hollowpoints). Robert sure lives up to his moniker! I have also got good results shooting Predator Polymags with the tips removed in my FX Impact .30. I am going to try the tipless Polymags in my new RAW .357. The JSB domed tend to simply pass right through game, dumping most of their energy in the backdrop. Unsat.

Interesting, I know the JSB in 81gn is a shooter and the 145 Ballistic Tip extreme shoots ok, at least in my Bulldog so I'm making these two my starting point in my not to long in the future HMx, my goal now is to make notes on other bullets that are being shot with good ballistics and what folks as yourself and others find out. I would like to see Nielsen make a bullet for the .357 and then a person could compare it to Mr Hollowpoints cast bullets, myself I would like to find something in the 120-130gr area to try but for now I'll just keep reading and see what you guys find with your HMx's......If I end up regulated then a 75 to 100gr might be the area I need to look at.
I really want to try to stay away from weighing and sizing because then the addiction will kick in and before I know it I'll be buying lead or going to the tire shops for lead weights and buying a melting pot, different molds for casting and then I'm in trouble hahaha I've been there before but not airguns. I'll just keep my ears and eyes open and start looking for more articles on the HMx .357......
