Hi here are specs 

SHORT STANDARD LONG

Overall length 23 5/8in Overall length 27 7/8in Overall length 31 3/4in

barrel length approx 14 inches barrel length is 18,7 inches barrel length aprox 22 1/2 inches

pros

well I always like long for 3 reasons

1, more shots because bigger air tube

2. less harmonics because same fpe is lower reg and hammer speed setting so less violence

3. more power to adjust if shooting heavy slugs


CONS

1.longer by about 7 inches so may be harder to carry in brush

2.heavier by about 1 pound

OK so I first picked long for more power and shot count my guess is about 24 inch barrel

I Changed mind to the Standard one as it gets more then short and can exceed 35fpe so incale it is loud and needs more moderator I rather save 4 inches and 10 ounces and go with the 18.7 barrel ,

my guess is the short is 14 inch barrel

yes I spoke to Matt at R&L today , about them he has all 3 in stock currently they are all same price tough choice lol first I said long , then changed to standard just in case it needed more moderator to be back yard friendly , Matt did say this is specs they shipped guns at

short 890s fps with 18 gr

std 930s fps with 18 gr

long 960 fps long 18gr

he also said there is alot of HST adjustment left

Back when these were made known to exist by JaimeinMass (I think that was his handle on the old Yellow) and he was looking to import them, he shared a picture that had all three sizes of Mutants. We briefly corresponded, made me a fair offer but I didn't have the funds at the time. In time, I bought and still own a standard sized Mutant. Coincidently, now that the Taipan Veteran in long is becoming available I am highly interested in learning more details. 

My immediate choice was the long because of the inherent qualities that a longer barrel and more air offers; particularly, in the bullpup design. I want more power, more shots, without over stressing the gun's mechanisms and their intended range of use. Yes, this is where harmonics come into play, as they always do. So too does the longer pup become more easily held steady when shouldered. Taipans are heavy too so don't let the pup configuration fool you.

I often read where walking through brush is the determining factor between lengths of pups and personally I haven't been in brush so thick that I can imagine this to be the case. Between rifle and bullpup and yes there is a huge difference in handling and maneuvering. 

I've owned a .25 Cricket long in the skeleton stock and it has been the best handling bullpup I've owned. I currently own a .25 Edgun R3M long and it is incredibly stable. All bullpups in my future will also be longs for the previous reasons mentioned.

Bear in mind that the Mutants/Veterans are the highest quality at the most reasonable (~$1250 R&L Airgun Supply) price compared to what else is out there. The trigger mechanisms are a marvel of solid, adjustable engineering while their accuracy is of the highest degree.

The Taipans are so easy to adjust, if you get the long and it's too loud, you can quiet it down by decreasing the fps, along with adding a moderator. I have a Veteran standard .25 and without a moderator, it barks a little. A DonnyFl Ronin quieted it down. I'm shooting it the way it came, no adjustments

The standard has the perfect balance of weight, length, power and shot count IMO. My .22 standard would get over 50 shots (60 if I remember correctly) at 30fpe and it would shoot WELL over 30fpe if needed. I guess the only reason to get the long (for me) would be if I needed more shots or more power. But how much more power do you need in .22? And 60 shots is a darned good shooting session.... No sense sacrificing it's compact size just for a few more shots. Would you buy a 50" long Veteran if it got 150 shots?😉 If they made .25 long that's another story....

Hey JW, I've owned a couple Taipans a .22 Mutant and .25 vet. and in my opinion they ARE the best bullpup you can buy for the money. The one thing that keeps a lot of people from buying them is the rear side lever but it isn't even a problem once you get used to it. These guns just work smoothly out of the box without issues.

what did you think of the CZ barrel and trigger Tweeter ? I think the .25 is LW correct ?.Does anyone know why they dont have a website like FX ,AirArms ,Daystate , Airforce ,???? Are they like the Spa and just put whose ever labels on them ?

I Tried To Google Taipan Nothing Came Up ....Does anyone know manufacturers website ???? or are these Imported with out barrels ?? like in AIRTanks4Sale site he had Taipan Mutants and said he got them at a deal with no barrels ? if this the case can each one put on other then CZ? How do you know for sure it is A CZ ?????

Hey jw, the manufacturers name is actually Tamaun which is think is Dmitry's last name (the man behind the Taipans). There has never been a website or much info on these guns other then the info that Taipan owners and dealers share. It is strange considering it is IMO the nicest "out of the box" bullpup you can buy.



My mutant .22 had a CZ barrel and you could tell it was CZ because it had 3 small dimples on top of the barrel. Since this barrel was originally made for the CZ200 the dimples were there for the sights I believe? I don't know if this is the same with the Veterans now but I wouldn't worry about it. Buy it from a trusted site like R&L and you'll get a CZ barrel (or LW .25) on your Veteran. At one point, Dmitry had trouble importing barrels so he did send some Taipans to the states without barrels so the dealers could fit them before selling so that's why some were imported without. As far as I know that has all been sorted so they all come with barrels. This is just info I've absorbed over the last couple years so I can't say it's absolute fact. If you want to read a lot about the Taipans check out the Taipan gate on the TAG forum. There are a lot of post from Dman, a member there who was the first person to actually bring a few of the Mutants into the U.S. he was in contact with Dmitry himself so his info is accurate. Much more so then my terrible memory haha! Hope this helps (even a little?)!
