The scope you wished you'd never let go?

Everybody talks about the airgun they wish they hadn't let go of and as I was looking for another scope I thought of the Athlon Midas Tac 4-16X scope I sold a while back. That was simply THE best, optically speaking, scope I've ever owned. It had an easy to get behind eye box, crisp and clear lenses and I just think it was the perfect scope. It tracked perfect, or at least, as close as I could measure at 33 yards. I use a lighted reticle a lot and it didn't have that, so I foolishly let it go.
If you ever get one, you'll be amazed. I think of all the really expensive scopes out there and the cost, and I can't imagine them being several thousand dollars better than the Midas Tac.Athlon makes a great scope.

I've owned a lot of scopes over the many years, both shooting pb and ag, from Leupolds to the old Bushnell 4200's, Sightrons, Weaver, and they don't compare to the Midas Tac at all.

Just a heads up if anyone is looking for a scope.

I bumble around in the mid budget range - think that is what most call it. Arken EPL-4 and the Optisan CP 3-12X32P. Listing those because I have bought those more than once. I prefer compact rifles and typically shoot under 50 yards. My overall experience is limited cause I don't have alot of $ and I'll skimp on the scope cause gotta have that rifle first.

I have an older Optisan EVX 10x44i that is a really good scope. I looked on their site a while back and it looks like all the older Optisans are not covered under warranty, only those bought after Jan 1 2025. Oh well, it seems to be working fine for me, so no biggie, just curious. It is very clear and bright.

I gave a close friend an older first gen inexpensive Discovery HD 4-20x50 FFP scope that he had mounted on his Impact M3 and he returned to me because he picked up a nicer Athlon BTR scope. This Discovery scope for some reason is so easy for me to get a repeatable sight picture with a large comfortable eyebox and clear enough glass that I mounted it on my new to me Taipan Vet2 and it's a match made in heaven for me! So I am very lucky to have gotten it back!

I haven't found it yet 😂

Probably the 5-50 Delta Stryker.
It's glass is about what you would expect in its price range, but it is probably the best "does everything" scope I have had.

Some are clearer, but don't range find as well.
Some have good range finding but poor reticles.
Some have both but only focus down to 25 yards.

And on and on. I can open it up all the way to 5 power and hunt at close range, or use it for FT, it even works reasonably well for benchrest.

The only drawback is the size/weight.

I do have what is arguably a good scope, but the fixed parallax and second focal plane makes me want to sell that vortex with my taste for ffp. Will I miss it?
Why would you ever buy a scope with no parallex adjustment? What is the reason for first focal plane. I would not give one the space in my gunroom unless I was going to try and use it for range estimation but really, you never heard of a laser range finder. I don't think you can accurately range a 36 yard chipmiunk with first focal plane.

Why would you need to calculate anything at 36 yards? It should be point blank or a known hold under. Shooting beer caps at 60 or head shots on pigeons at that range is more of a thing for my stuff.

I was estimating that way in the past off rough sizes of critters. I own 3 laser range finders and even a range estimating scope. Everything Is for 30 to 200+ yards and I'm not married to that 1 scope.... It just can't find a fitting home.

It's a vortex viper pst with fixed parallax that I robbed off a centerfire that MSRPS for more than many people's air rifles.... It was for a 308 where I don't care for it either because 2fp. It's fairly useful for the 2-400 yard regime but I can't stand the zoom changes in holdover. I've got probably 30 scopes from over the years and you can see how my taste and knowledge has changed. The real winner in all of it is a zulus. You can have ffp or SFP, laser range finding, ballistic solving, night vision and recording..... That's on my impact.

The vortex just gets stuck on new guns to initially tune for group sizes or test parts I've made. I won't be buying any more vortexes or leupolds since my good experiences with arken and element. Some dudes like 2fp and can work with them, i can't abide.

I had many scopes in past, regardless of a price range. Bought them "smart" so if not working out welll the loss in my pocket would be minimum.
But I never been an impulse buyer just for anything.
Also I promised long ago that I will not collect things that I "don't use regularly".
This how I ended letting go two scopes I am still seeing as great value, I may get these back somewhere on the timeline:

Victoptics S6 LPVO
Immersive Optics 14x50

Come to the Springer world....You need to know the distsnce.

I sold my Midat TAC 4-16 as well but I don't regret it. Truthfully I couldn't use the reticle on 4x because it was IIRC a .04 mil reticle thickness. It was a excellent scope otherwise.

BTW, Bchannel, there is a G2 MT 4-16 now and it has a new reticle thickness of .06 mil in the mil version. This translates to the reticle more easily being seen on low mag but not being intrusive on a small target.

I have the Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50 with the same .06 mil reticle thickness and I love how this reticle turned out in actual use on low mag. In the spring I hit a PD right square in the chest at 80Y on 2.5x as a proof to myself that I could see the reticle well enough to make the shot.

I must agree. Best scope iv owned for the money. Most of my current and former scope all were under 600 so that is my reference point.
