The quietest full size backstop ever!

4'x4' steel backer at a 45° angle filled with rubber mulch. After 3 years of shooting I decided to replace the mesh that helps hold the mulch in. It wasn't really necessary because the poi is the lower half and each shot pushed the mulch towards the rear.

Originally I did not have it filled with rubber mulch. I bolted 2 sheets of 1'' thick horse mat to the back hoping that it would deaden the sound. It helped a little, but nothing works like rubber mulch!

very nice i like that iv built a box 24 by 16 deep filled with mulch chunks. then in frot of that 3 layers 3/4 inch ballistic rubber really works well

Nice.. I use a 5 gallon bucket with folded up old jeans and sweat shirts that is dead silent! Not to mention light&compact enough to fit just about anywhere and comes with a handle

Forgot to mention when I sight in my scopes, I cut out a piece of cardboard and tape it around the opening and then stick on a target.

This looks nice. I need to make a good trap like this for my place. Something like this on a garden cart would be perfect and could be rolled to different ranges. Your trap looks really good for being outside for 3 years too. I'm in Oregon and would have to treat that wood or it would be trashed in a few years.

I used a wooden box and and old clothes too but the sound of the pellet hitting the paper is still loud especially with 25. I put more tension on the paper helps a little bit still a big loud.

I used pressure treated plywood & pressure treated 2'x4's. The ply wood is starting to separate, but the 2x4's still look good.

I recently dismantled my backstop. It was a 4' x 20' flagstone wall with bales of straw in front of it. the flagstone flattens out the pellets and the bales deaden any sound.

If memory serves me, I think in a Matt Manning video there is a pellet trap using small chains hanging in front of a box.

I shoot crossbows too. I just put a paper target onto my foam crossbow block. NOTHING is quieter than a pellet going into foam.

Try this, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I80KV1W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and fold it into 8-10 layers deep. Put the pile of rags/towels/sheets in front of it. Nothing under 100fpe (confirmed) is getting through that and it's super quiet.

Where are you guy getting the rubber mulch? Around here all I can find is from a plant that shreds tires from Discount Tire. It's leftovers but I can buy a new set of B.F. Goodrich Mud Terrain Radials for a fraction of what they want for that stuff.

that mesh looks like plaster lath, available at your local lumberyard.
