The HW 80 .25 with HW 3-9X scope

This rifle is a bit large, but ever since I put the scope and rifle together with ZR (Diana) mounts and rings it remains true.

Now I am surprised because I just pick it up from wherever it is and hit the 1.5" steel discs at 25 or 35 yards using HN Field Target Trophy.

I'm missing the targets at 25 yards today because the lighting condition (for my open sighted HW50S .20) is cloudy and I simply cannot see the iron sights precisely enough to be sure where the last shot went.

So I had one pellet in .25 HN FTT before opening another can and took that pellet out and walked back to the computer room where serial number USA 2295509 is leaning against the wall and pull it out with lens covers still capped and cocked it while going out to the shooting position for 25 yards.

I unscrewed the metal lens caps to see a perfectly clean set of objective and ocular lenses knowing the scope is "clear" to view. I left the safety on and as soon as I felt it was "right" to squeeze away the steel clanged faster than my own HW50S .20 does, and on target.

Now I get to open another can of HN FTTs in .25 and use every single pellet once a month or 20 times a day depending upon the cost of the .25s which are very costly compared to lesser calibers.

I am contemplating getting another ZR and a decent scope to mount on the HW50S .20. It will probably work okay but the extra height in the ZR mount may (most likely) through the whole rifle into a canting nightmare along with elevation problem. In the meantime I know the HW80 .25 in this set up can be last word on all airgunning up to 35 yards: showing accuracy enough to copy a .177 or .22 or .20 center to center. I know this with the HW80 .25. It is not my HW80K .22 at all except for noise (the .22 has a muffler by HW whereas the HW80 is plain barrel to the length HW80 barrels go). The advantage of the HW80 over the HW95L in .25 is in my rifles 49 fps with the same pellet.\ Either is a killer at 35 yards. But do not underestimate what we call the "R1" in .25. It is a powerhouse full of incredible accuracy at 649 fps MV. Remember, my own HW95L has 595 fps MV. Yet either one will absolutely destroy iron or varmint within 35 yards with ease not seen in lesser calibers. I have the lesser calibers and know this. If I really want to kill a target or varmint it is going to be the HW80 .25.

Fischer I have a HW80K .25. It’s my squirrel force field. What a hammer, one contact with the 80 and they are speechless.
Anyway I was thinking a HW98 .25 thanks to your post on the 98 .25. I have it in .22 and of all my guns the 98 is queen.

I’ve been air gunning just over two years ago, when I retired, unfortunately I started a major project at the same time, which has priority (to save marriage) hope to be finished in fall. In the meantime I‘ll buy what I can afford till then. Starting to get a nice collection. I shoot every day as I can step out any door and fire away, sometimes a few sometimes many. As far as technical properties go I’m green. After fall the I won’t be. I’ll clean and tear into a few, can’t wait.

I was concerned that the 97 and 98 wouldn’t push the .25 lead sufficently. Most my guns are .22, I might jump on a HW97KT .25, just got it in .177 two weeks ago. Don’t want two stocks to be the same, but I love the thumb hole. In the description the 97 shoots 500 FPS. Can you bump that up or do you need to?
Thanks for wake up call on .25’s.

Bought the HW97KT .25 last nite. Had to have it. Thanks Crow

My HW77K in .25 (Vortek PG3 installed) does 715 fps with 16.5 grain GTO lead free pellets. Very accurate at 25 yards, don’t know what it puts out in stock set up though.
