Airgun Technologies The Future of Springers – Are We Still in the Game?

Gentlemen,

There’s a noticeable wave of innovation in the PCP space, with many new models and advancements emerging. As someone who’s always been a passionate springer enthusiast, I’m curious, are any of the major manufacturers still investing time and R&D into springer technology?

Is there a chance we’ll see a truly exciting, next-gen springer in the near future, or is all the momentum now focused solely on PCPs?

Would love to hear your thoughts on where things are headed.

Cheers from Dubai,

Ajith

My read of the evidence is that high quality spring guns are a dying market, and therefore new R&D or investment just does not pencil out for manufacturers. The few attempts to bring innovative and/or high quality new products to market in the past 5-10 years have all failed. The new FWB pro sport, the SIG ASP20 and the LGV/LGU were all discontinued, presumably due to poor sales. Diana seems to be adrift. I'm thankful we still have Weihrauch and AA still producing quality guns, but my guess is that it is a sunset business going forward.

Have several more than a dozen and just bought another. This one an Air Arms Pro Sport walnut. This platform has been engineered to perfection. Always room to polish and tune if you have that skill. Many fine examples exist; AA, FWB, Weihraurch, Walther, etc.... Nothing new and trendy. Just wonderful examples of exquisite style and performance. Enjoy.....

PCPs are still priced out of many new enthusiast range and springers can still be dominant in the entry market, it's just sad that if there is 1 good then there are 10 bad and often new buyers not knowing better end up buying a wrong gun.

Also, there is no reward for innovation there, anything new and effective will increase price to PCP bracket, and then it will be tough battle.

So while it's not doom and gloom, but it's also probably not likely.

Where I live, springer prices are lower than PCP. It's usually springer < nitro < pcp's.

Take this for example

This is almost 1/4th of the cost of my own PCP bullpup.

There's little room in the design for significant improvements in power to make them competitive with PCPs. You just can't eliminate the physics of moving pistons that makes these guns work.

The best manufacturers can do is fine tune a rifles manners by making better fitting guides and maybe playing with transfer ports. There's not enough ROI for them to change their routines now.
