The end of Chairgun

For the people who want or need a ballistic app and relied soley on chairgun you need to get strelok pro. Its a much better ballistic app than chairgun once you have learned how to use all its features. Strelok has a very deep reticle database that covers just about every reticle on the market. Strelok also has more input for calculating ballistics which makes it more accurate as you stretch the distance.

Thanks LDP, I agree wholeheartedly! I just happened to catch an offhand remark recently regarding the fact that there is a free version of Strelok… so I went to my Google Store on my phone and downloaded "Strelok Ballistic Calculator" free version instead of the Strelok Pro just to chuck it out. It turns out that it does everything I need it to do so that I have no need for the "Pro" version. I am not terribly sophisticated when it comes to electronic devices…wouldn't even know how to play a video game… but I had this app up and running perfectly in no time. Here are a couple examples I even emailed to myself! This is exactly what my Sightron reticle looks like except mine has a floating dot in the center…. man with this on my phone and my Athlon Range Finder I am going to be set to the bone!

For this one at 100 yards I put in a 10 mph cross wind coming from 90 degrees right.

Yep the non-Pro free version does everything I need it to... all I have to do is check it against reality and if it is somewhat different then I will "adjust" it by tweaking the scope height until the results I get from Strelok exactly match what I get on the target in reality. Then once the two match exactly I am set to the bone! So that all I ever have to do is put the Distance, Slope angle if any, wind speed & wind direction - which I can get with Google weather on my phone, hit Calclulate and then Reticle button, and boom there it is as pretty as you please... and should I decide to dial in the dope on the scope instead of using the reticle holdovers/holdoffs it even tells me how many clicks to dial! I don't need anything else! This now totally negates the need for me to drag out my old Chairgun ballistics table I have printed out and usually carry in my shooting box, but can never seem to find when I need it. Whereas, my rangefinder is in my rifle case and my phone is always on my side... what could be sweeter? :)

Chairgun was a very weak ballistics program anyways. The only advantage I can think of that Chairgun had was a library of BC's for pellets. Other than that, the program seems like a dinosaur when compared to other ballistic programs.

If you know the BC of the pellet you are using (generally G1 or G7), you can use any of the great ballistic apps that were created for powder burners that are out there. Applied Ballistics, Trasol, Hornady has a 4 DOF ballistics calculator, Lapua has a 6 DOF calculator, etc. Plenty of solid options.
