The Amazing China airguns.

You know what amazes me the most?
In China all guns including airguns are banned to a public. If you wanna play with guns you can still join the PRC army.
Starting from this reality, some of their companies - most likely only selected companies - can engineer and build the airguns or the scopes and many other accessories.
But they cannot physically range test it - not as per common laws, this what my chinese friends telling me ... other then dropping out of fifth floor window or running over with a car.
And here we go... most of the scopes for example coming from that place, arrive to a destination, re-pack and re-Brand, and all or most people happy.

Did you see the recent hoopla about the Italian and French super expensive designer stuff that's actually made in China? The $34,000 designer bags were made in China for $1,200.

China can and does make top quality stuff. They will also make cheap crap if that is what they are contracted to make. The problem is not with the Chinese manufacturers, they are capable, it's with the North American importers who insist on the lowest price possible then sell at a higher price to maximize their profits.

On a business trip to China, during negotiations I was offered 3 quotes for the product: cheap, good and best. The choice was mine to make.

You get what you pay for. You want Dollar-store quality and prices, they will make it if you want.

To some degree I think the problem is with mainland Chinese culture. The way I had it explained to me was that for generations now in China it has been the case that the government or crooks connected with it might just decide to shut your business down or rip you off at any given time and if they do there is nothing you can do about it. What this has done is fostered a culture of getting what you can when you can because it might not be there tomorrow. This results in Chinese businesses cutting corners and choosing a quick profit whenever they can get it instead of working to build brands with good reputations for quality.

This actually illustrates exactly what I was referring to. There's absolutely no question that the Chinese are capable of manufacturing high quality goods, so why is it that pretty much the entire world, including the Chinese themselves, pay premiums for products manufactured in China by non-Chinese brands? It's because the Chinese manufacturers have an image and a trust problem. People trust a brand like Rolex to maintain a certain level of quality regardless of where their factory is located. And with a brand like Rolex, of course there's prestige and snob appeal involved as well, but for other brands, like Sony, you're just paying for the assurance that they have properly specced the materials and QC'd the assembly.

It's funny though.. those folks they learned from are now rebranding and selling the Chinese stuff.
What's really funny is that the Chinese are now doing the same thing we did and the Japanese did a generation ago and are off-shoring much of their production. Chinese labor is expensive now compared to Vietnamese or Indian labor, so it doesn't make any sense anymore to manufacture textiles or children's toys in China anymore and that was the case even before the tariffs.

I have to intercede in this thread simply because I have the most incredibly accurate Olympic quality 10 meter PCP pistol manufactured in China. It is the 10-Meter competition ready Air Venturi Comp10 pre-charged pneumatic .177 Match air pistol. Built-in dry fire capability. At 10 meters (11 yards) Olympic distance, I can "cover a nickel dead center in an Olympic target".....NOTE: With a 2 hand hold sitting, elbows on a bench! Yes, I know Olympic rules are one hand standing and if you ever watched the Olympic air pistol competition, it is amazing. Why 2 hands sitting...? I am a very old fart and slowly working my way up to one hand standing....now covering a 4" coffee cup plate with one hand standing at 10 meters, but working my way up with exercise and practice!

Back to the subject of this thread....this is a truly amazing pistol, not only in super high Chinese quality, but 200 shots per air charge! Expensive relatively speaking, but 1/4 the cost of popular official 10 meter Olympic pistols. Very well worth it if you have your heart set on 10 meter Olympic style local competition...I only wish I was young enough to train for the next USA trials.....
2024 Paris Olympics........

There have been a sharp rise in ( you mention pretty much any high end item / brand ) actually being made in China and for a lot less than what you pay for it.
But that is NOT true, it is just Chinese copy makers that will want you to buy their stuff, which granted can look very much like the real thing.

I got a Aragon watch a few years back, and while it work just fine still, it is lagging severely so not long before i am 15 - 20 minutes off, something i have never noticed on my TAG / IWC / Rolex / Glashütte watches i never wear / use.
Contemplating getting a digital Seiko

I think it's shaping up to be that way. I live in a port city and the number of container ships are way down.

On a bright note however, I'm guessing that there might be some bargains out there on shipping containers soon. They make fantastic secure storage buildings.
I live in the city but once I retire I will be moving to the country and you can bet I will have one to double as safe storage and a tornado shelter!
