Right around 1970 my brother got a hold of a catalog on four rifles…The original Sheridan silver and blue streaks, available at the time in both pump up version or C02. They were by far and away the sexiest, most accurate, most beautiful, most deadly, airguns we had ever fantasized about. I was 10, It was way beyond my means.
my older brother never bought one, he bought something else. I was hooked. I had one by the time I was 14. I’m not sure how many hours I spent walking through fields with it, or shooting it at targets or tin cans. It was an adult rifle. I of course went with the pump up version, the idea of actually having to buy CO2 bulbs was beyond my imagination from a financial standpoint.
almost 50 years later, the form factor is still perfect for me. I walk through the woods with my thumb resting on the safety release just as I did as a boy.
The reality is, the CO2 rifle was the ultimate weapon at the time. I set my sights on finding a couple many years ago. I now own a pretty much mint silver streak, and blue streak in CO2. They are both worth way more than I paid. And I don’t see that trend changing.
It has a significant advantage over the PCP rifle pictured. A CO2 Airgun, pretty much shoots like it’s regulated. Point of impact does not change throughout the cartridge.
Anyway I had an all time record seven chipmunks 🐿 with it yesterday. I could’ve had eight, I had the opportunity, but he got away before I could shoot. I nailed one at 30 yards. I could not recover a single one. It’s getting much more difficult to get shots.
There of been a lot of guys that said they really like the PCP version. That would be pretty much impossible to find. But it is possible to find CO2 rifles, they are out there. And they are excellent!
I figure this rifle was made around 50 years ago. Somehow that yellow sticker made it the whole time. It wouldn’t of lasted on my rifle by the time I got home. The stock has actual mineral streaks AND Fiddleback. Most Sheridan stocks are very plain. This is one in 500.
It is delightfully accurate. As the chipmunks found out.
