Was shooting at sportsman's club today thinking about the recent posts about shooting flies that landed on the target. Well, wouldn't you just know this butterfly landed on mine. So what's a guy to do but try to match those other posts — only problem is, this is just gross.

Judging by the creamy yellow smudge, it looks like Mr. Butter-fly's moniker is apropos.

Butterfly nothing. A lot of those things lay eggs that turn into larvae that will eat up crops. Good shot.

And I’m not trying to be a know it all, but these are not agricultural pests - the host plants being deciduous trees such as willows, birch trees, alders, elms, etc.

And yes, I would have taken the shot also.

Don’t be. There are so many insects in the world that the collection (or occasional targeting) of most species will in no way affect the population.

Yes, they are very common here in Michigan this time of year.

Good thing you didn't do that in California. They would have tried to arrest you for Hunting without a lisc, Incorrect or no Stamp for the species hunted or Unlicensed pest removal.
