That last F-ing shot!!! Delta Wolf!

Aaaaarrrrggghhh. Was shooting the .25 Delta Wolf practicing at 101 yards for the upcoming Oregon event. Winds were 5 to 7 mph left to right and White Fang was doing almost as good as Bleu, my .22 RW HP. Then the wind almost stopped later evening right before I was packing up to leave. So I shot 5 shots .25 Mk1 at 875 FPS and it was inside 1/2 inch, so I decided to shoot 5 more st the same target. The next 4 were in with the first five at 1/2 inch. And the final shot… CRAP! Totally me, jerked the trigger a bit and it went an inch high… but the Delta is showing promise at 100 yard BR. Time to start scoring targets.

Oh, of course this was cherry picked. Most of my ten shot groups looked like this one before the wind died down.

Thanks guys. The gun has gotten better and better, I’m still looking for that tune that will give me a very low ES. Now about the best I can do is about 10 to 12 FPS. And that’s in Advanced Mode with various voltage and dwell and also the Factory Mode.

One thing about the Factory Mode is that it seems to go from 30 to 35 FPS lower when changing speed. What I mean by that is that if I had it set to 885, and it was shooting close to that. Then I program with a few swipes to 880. It won’t “start” where it was and adjust to 880. It’ll go for the first 4 or 5 shots to 845 and then over those 4 or 5 shot work it’s way back to the program speed. So if I want to just change speed 5 FPS, I need to “burn” 4 or 5 shots to get to my new speed. I’m sure DS will gradually come out with improvements to upgrade the programming.

I also took the time to polish the barrel yesterday afternoon before I went shooting and I think that helped. On the bench and from bucket and sticks the gun likes to be pulled in firmly against the shoulder for more consistent shots... If you hold it loosely it won’t shoot as accurately.

ES values - To be honest, I chase this ghost a lot in terms of striving for single digit ES Values. I wound up adjusting my fairly new Taipan Long .25 all the way from 850-950 max by adjusting the HST, and trying to dial in optimum velocity and ES values. Totally different gun than the DW, and I was able to achieve ES of 10-17 at 905 FPS. Both the RAW ( great regulator) and Safari are capable of less than 10 ES.

Q. Can you detect any improvement in accuracy when you are in the < 10 ES zone vs. 10-20 ES as an example? I understand why we all strive for low ES and SD values, I just am not sure for me if I can notice / perceive noticeable accuracy enhancements.

Yes, that’s the maddening part of the Delta. If you have a low shot that seems to be for mo reason you can look and see if the speed was low. If I’m tuned to 880 and i shoot one at 100 and it’s 1/2 or 3/4 inch lower that the previous shots I can look and see that it was 865. It’s hard to describe so I’ll compare to my Bleu RW HP.

Thst one has an ES of about 12 or 13 over the shot string of 50 shots. But the shot to shot ES is very low, maybe 5 FPS. The Delta would have a similar shot string ES, but it’s shot to shot ES could be the whole value, or 13 FPS. This is noticeable at 100 yards. You see the 2 high shots on the second target above? Both of them were about 883 or 884 and all the others were 870 to 875. It’s actually kind of maddening and I think I’ll learn to ignore the pellet speed or turn it off nice I get that tune where it is consistently under 10 FPS.
Ive been trying the reg at lower values 145-ish bar as recommended by guys who have been in the Delta testing and evaluation program. But I haven’t tried higher pressures so my next step is to shoot it under the same conditions with 170 bar reg pressure. It has the ES as described in n both Factory and Advanced mode. I’d like to be able to set the speed in factory mode and the gun continually adjust to keep the ES near 5 or 6. My five year old Cricket mini will shoot 50 shots with an ES or 6 or 7. My .177 DS Pulsar will shoot 90 shots with an ES of 7 or 8, so I know the t can be done. Going out with Delta this afternoon to try more settings and also practice.

I'm about to get my Delta Wolf. I was hoping you might have some recommendations for pellets and advanced settings for my 25 cal. I shoot 25m and 50yd bench rest. Thanks for any info. Bob

Definitely the .25 JSB Heavy. NOT the Mk2. Set it to factory setting with factory reg pressure and set speed to 875 or 880 FPS. You won’t be disappointed. I shot a quick 5 minute N50 card with mine on Wednesday no flags prone and scored 248. So the gun is accurate.

I gotcha.

Yes, I looked at your 2nd target and clearly saw the drop down from the two higher 8 ring pellets, at the lower velocity. Although, I did like the tight group and scoring at 875 FPS. I can see where this could get frustrating as your trying to shoot for score, using sighters, and then trying to assimilate. I kind of agree, maybe turn the Chrono off for 100 yard practice once you are comfortable with the appropriate reg setting and ES values. That would be distracting for me as well.

I like the idea of the gun in factory mode, continually adjusting to optimize low ES values. Gotta love computers and I like that feature.

Let us know how you make out.

I just saw this Mike. You do realize that I haven’t busted over 240 yet with either Anschutz RF; or the RAW or Safari with NAT 50 scoring.“248” is phenomenal in my world, particularly without flags. You and the other Mike (N) are killing me with these high NAT scores. 😃

Can’t wait to get back in the hunt.
