Thank you.. First PCP, First LDC, totally hooked.

I just wanted to reach out and say thanks for being such a great group of folks. I stumbled onto this forum while trying to find info on getting a Gamo Whisper to shoot. Once I saw that PCP's out shoot, out quiet, and generally out perform other types of airguns I knew I had to have one. The expert advice on this forum really helped me make a decision and decide what direction to go. I ended up with a decent deal on a 22 cal Nova Freedom. Still working on sighting it in with multiple pellets, but wow is it quiet with the Donnyfl Sumo. So far after initial sighting in with CPHP 14.3G I'm simply blown away but the one ragged hole accuracy at 30 yds (shooting on low with hammer spring 1.5 turns back from factory setting). This is a $400gun.. can't wait to get the chrony set up and experiment with different pellets. Too much snow right now. Until then, The tree rats are simply going to have to settle for 14.3grain CPHP.

FX Impact or EdGun Matador in 25 for a second PCP? Wouldn't want the Nova to get lonely....

PCPs are social animals. They thrive in packs but wither mentally and physically if forced to endure long periods alone. Many PCPs can be satisfied with non-PCP companions such as Springers but will not usually flourish to their full potential. The presence of at least one PCP companion will bring out the best attributes of your PCP, including socializing the gun and sharpening its shooting instincts. A true pack (defined as a group of 3 or more PCPs sharing a home/safe) is considered by most dedicated PCP breeders to be ideal, although there is some disagreement as to how many is "too many". It is agreed in most quarters that having a pack so large that some guns go neglected (typically among the oldest and/or least expensive) is a type of PCP abuse and should be avoided or alleviated through sales or gifting to others. The wise airgunner will carefully consider her or his needs, goals, budget, and available time for shooting before taking on the awesome responsibility that is PCP ownership. Once you pick up and hold your first PCP, though, be prepared to lose your heart to the thrilling, endearing relationship that is soon to develop!

So glad you are happy with your Nova Freedom. My son and I love ours. it is the best backpack AG we have. Never out of air. Give some feed back on shot count and also what is your sweet pressure range, how many shot in that range.

Ironlion269,

That is a really good description. Like @Bluecup, I might need some help with the wife to grasp that one.

5 shot group on low with the hammer 1.5 turns back from factory setting with psi starting at ~3100 shooting down to ~2500 seems good so far. I went with this as the info online seems to show that 3000-2500 was really consistent. I'm looking forward to getting time to chrony it with varying hammer spring tensions.

I want to set up a backyard friendly very quiet low power tune for the tree rats and a super charged fpe tune for the yotes

This sir is absolutely fantastic! I would think you are a writer. I'm afraid I might plagiarize you and use it elsewhere. Lmao

I might just might have a remedy for the problem of the Nova being lonely!

I started out with a Marauder and a hand pump about 5 years ago and now I’m all in with four high end rifles and several pistols and a compressor. The only way I can do it is to drive old cars and live in a trailer! But it’s worth it.

Welcome to the new adventure. And it’s really easy if you get your priorities straight...don’t let the Nova get lonely, and you really do need a PCP so you can compare and test the two against each other! Just my opinion, but how else can you get all this information straight?

You have a fun summer coming for certain, I remember well that first summer with the Marauder. It was so accurate that I could stack pellets at 20 yards and then pull out a ball of lead from the board I was shooting. And I got to wondering about just how accurate can these guns be? So I looked on the web and was completely blown away by what I learned.

I bought a .20 cal Theoben from AZ that he told me would astound me. And OMG did it ever! I just shot the best group of my life with it last week. Then came a FX Crown .25 and a FX Royal .177 and a Steyr LG110 .22, and I am starting to realize that I need a bull pup. Thinking about a EDgun Leyla.

So you can see what is going to happen to you if you continue with this sport...it is a great disease though! Enjoy.

I did a pressure/fps curve, and I found that I ours gets better fps when we stay in the 2500-2000 range, It gives us 5-6 shots at a low spread of 20 fps. It takes us 15 pumps or so to to get back in the range. We haven't touched it from the manufacturer settings as it works perfectly for us that way.

Keep sharing.
