Texan .457 hog shot with NSA 250 gr slug, no squeal

Took the Air Force Texan .457 carbon out last night and managed to get a hog using the NSA 250gr slugs @ 980 FPS. I thought I missed, after the shot he ran off and I heard nothing from him. I always hear them squeal or something. Zero blood and we found the hog about 20 yards away with a thermal tracker. Hit a double lung, so I'm guessing his lungs collapsed making it unable to squeal. That's a first.

Here is the video. Nothing special and it made me thing I missed.

Tiny entry wound (no blood trail) and no exit. I did shoot him in the thick stuff.

Photo of the lungs. The entry wound was tiny but the NSA 250 slugs put holes in the lung, I could stick my fingers through.

At that speed I didn't think the slug would expand, and it did not.
About a 120lb'er if I had to guess.

There are slug makers which make better expanding slugs. At that speed, a slug should mushroom easily. I have some Air Ventury 250s that are like that - hard lead compound and very little hollow chamber. Here is a before and after of a 300 grain from Mr Hollowpoint shot out of my .457 Texan Carbine CF at 3200 psi fill. Target was 15 yards into goopy clay mud, so similar consistency. A full length Texan should work even better.

Nice job on the hog..250g NSA got the job done. And dead is dead. If your looking for more expansion here are a couple ideas

slugs from NSA that you also might take a serious look at.

I have these on order to try in ballistic gel. Critters that size I think the NSA 348g would do well

Not knocking MR Hollow point as he offers a great product. And would look at what he sells as well.

Again nice looking hog..

here is a 230g High Arc Hunter sold at AOA shot the other day from my Texan Carbine CF

at 10 yards into 10% gel and the result looks good but only made it 6” will retest at 50yrds

If you want expansion the 281 and 348 are made for like the poster above has in the pictures. They are a very wide mouth slug with a deep/wide cavity and also knurled to reduce bore friction. They are also a boattail to increase BC. In my opinion they are the ultimate hunting bullet in an airgun if you are looking for penetration and expansion. Shoot1721 did a video showing the expansion in gel which is on Youtube.
