Texan .257 Stuck Nielson 75grn ammo ? Suppose to happen at 2100 psi or lower?

https://nielsenspecialtyammo.com/collections/257-cal-ammo/products/75-grain-hollow-point-boat-tail-air-rifle-pellets-257-caliber-air-gun-slug-swaged?variant=12508023193693

Shooting the texan .257 with the nelson 75 grain slugs above. Seems like these slugs are super tight ? So my experience so far.

1. These slugs get stuck in the barrel at PSI around 2100 or lower.

2. One of the slugs is really stuck now in the barrel even when I fill up the tank to full power and turn the gun to max power still will not blow it out !

3. Super long barrel now looking for a rod to push the slug out ...

1. Questions. First is this normal to have a stuck slug in the barrel more than a few times when presume is lower than 2100 ?

2. How would you suggest getting this slug out of the barell as now it just blows around into the barrel and you can feel the back air blowing from the pellet chamber ?

Jaydog, slow down man. First you need to slug your bbl. Then have a sizing die made .0003 over the the slug size. You also need some type of lube. Very hard to beat imperial wax. Are you lubing slugs before shooting them. 2100 psi is way low for texan. Consider very hard a 60 min tank and regulator. Hook it up and shoot tethered. Pm me if you need help.

Ahh probably need to clarify. I am shooting at 3000 psi, Nielson slugs. I thought these would work fine out of the box ? When the pressure gets down to say 2200 PSI sometimes that PSI gets away from me and I think I can take 1 more shot. Bam I get a stuck slug. Wont do that anymore. I can lube my slugs if needed but thought I did not need to size them. I have never sized slugs especially from Nielsons as his products seem pretty accurate ?

Thanks again.

Jay

You dont lube your bullets properly do you?

Lead will rub off in the barrel and start pressure will increase until you get where you are!

Tap out the bullet from the muzzle with a cleaning rod and clean the living daylight ot of that barrel.

Form now on lube your bullets in a proper manner.

My 50 Texan has shot @ 800 shots since i got it and i have zero leading at all.

Secret? I size and lube my bullets as i would for a powderburner.

The notion that airguns dont need lube is a fallacy.

Pellet guns can run on next to no lube but proper bullet shooting airguns need proper lube or they will lead to death.

1. slug your barrel and size accordingly. I think .257 and even .258 works fine for my Texan. I confirm the best one by shooting over crony to pick the fastest sized bullets.

2. I start at 2800 psi for 257420 slugs and shoot down below 2100 psi all the time. NO Jammed bullets for me.

3. a 1/4" wooden dowel should easily drive out a stuck slug. If too big then a 3/16" wooden dowel will work.

4. Lube, lube, lube bullets. I use 10weight silicone RC Shock Oil.

5. Clean, clean, clean your barrel, then polish, then clean, clean, clean, then lube barrel with silicone oil. I will lube the barrel with M-Pro-7, then follow up with silicone. I have a cheap bore inspection camera from Amazon to make sure my barrel is clean.

6. I also powder coat my bullets and then size and lube for 4 patch cleaning after shooting a 100-200+ slugs.

I suspect you have a leaded up barrel. If that is the case then by all means use a bronze brush and something like Goo Gone to scrub until you see no leading. I've even had to wrap a bronze brush with bronze wool. Once the lead is gone then run a few patches of Brownells J-B Bore Bright and then clean. These barrels can be rough and abrasive, scraping off lead and fouling things up. Once you have a clean, polished and lubed barrel, you will notice that going forward 4 patches are usually enough to make your barrel shiny clean.
