While walking my dog at the local park, a doe mule deer tried to stomp my Rottweiler/German Shepherd mixed breed dog. He dodged her hooves repeatedly until he had an opening and then grabbed her by the neck and threw her down. I made him let her go. He also took down a mule deer fawn one day and I made him let it go. He chased a mule deer into the Musselshell River and took it down midstream and I had to make him let it go as well. The last time he chased a mule deer, it was a big buck with an attitude that decided he didn't want to be chased, so he turned around and chased my dog instead. You should have seen the look on my dog's face!!! His ears were laid back and he was running for all he was worth. The buck soon gave up as soon as my dog was chased away from the does the buck was guarding. My dog never chased another mule deer after that day.
