Testing my new bad ass Springer in the real world - Hat Trick!

I made the mistake of not buying one of these when they were actually available on the market. I know I had it in my cart a couple different times and never pulled the trigger. I’ve been making up for lost time. My third should be arriving any day. I have one extra now that’s going to a friend. So I will have two, one and 17 and one in 22.

I’ve done numerous posts shooting this rifle at distances out to 100 yards with great accuracy. Now I needed to give it a field test!

The trifecta started with the best shot of the three. Red squirrels this time of year don’t stop running. I spotted this one out my office window, and started running for the door, grabbing the Sig on my way.

He was doing the tree to tree thing. Yes there are all kinds of leaves now. I got myself about 10 feet ahead of him picked a spot, and right before he got to the spot, I made a kissing sound. He hesitated for a split second right there, I whacked him off hand hard. Penny actually beat him to the ground he was about 30 feet up in a tree. And we could both hear the thump when the pellet hit. She was off in an instant. It fell right next to her and she grabbed it by the head and brought it to me…wow.

Look at the devastation caused by the 177CP. The entrance wound was right by the arm, and actually caught a piece of the arm on the way through. There was blood everywhere. You can see the exit wound.

The following two are chipmunks. The first was off hand at about 15 yards. Right in the 👁

The next was offhand at 31 yards, which on a chipmunk is not so easy. That was a Center body shot. He flipped up and crawled 4 feet into the brush, Penny found him.

these are kick ass rifles!

All three were DRT first shot kills. If you’re wondering what happened after that, I blew one right over the head of a chipmunk at about 10 yards. My streak with ended.

I shot this group walking back from the last kill. Five shots at 31 yards off hand right into the head.

I shot Diana M34 from 98 to 2014 when I got my first PCP. They are two different worlds. I love the power, accuracy and fast follow up shots that a magazine feed PCP gives but there is the complexity, fill station and inevitable leaks and the ability to tinker and tune. Its a ball making accurate shots with a pcp that you could previously only make with a nice .22 rimfire. Very satisfying knocking off crows and squirrels out past 50 yards like it aint nothing. Try that with your springer. I love my 34 and am upgrading to a Macarri spring tune kit, new piston seal and breech seal as the factory spring failed. This should smooth the cycle, improve accuracy and bump the power up a bit. If you can pass the money get yourself a quality springer and you will have decades of enjoyment.

Not following you here. I can EASILY take squirrels and even chipmunks WELL out past 50 yards with my springers. Longest crow taken is around 55 yards with my asp20. One shot, DRT.

I know they are 2 different worlds, but I know my springers can hang with the best out to 50 yards. And my asl20 has almost 20,000 rounds down range with zero malfunctions indicating the asp should be good for decades...
