Tested New Ammo and Revisited Some Old Tins w/Brocock Bantam HR

Broke out old faithful (.25 Brocock Bantam Sniper HR) to let her breath a bit today. Shot at 22 and 52 yards off my tripod. Tried some RWS Superdome 31 grain pellets at 22 yards and the groups looked too wide for my taste from such a close distance. I was getting strange random 2”-3 ½” drops on close range shots. Totally unacceptable. The top and middle were targets shot with .25 RWS Superdome 31 grain pellets. Maybe they shoot well out of another type of gun or at another speed. I didn’t set up a chronograph today. I may do that another day.

The circles and red arrows are showing those weird shots that dropped for who knows what reason. I thought I aimed at the wrong target the first time it happened. The bottom target is a 22 yard group with JSB King Heavy 33.95 grain pellets that I also revisited today. I haven’t shot those in a while.

Revisited .25 H&N Baracuda 30.86 grain pellets. I forgot that they fit loosely in the mag and can get hung up and damaged on the dome or skirts when indexing the next shot if I’m not aware of how the gun is positioned. They group ok close range (22 yards).

A couple 52 yard groups with the JSB King Heavy 33.95 diabolo pellets.

Relaxing evening.

Dave, I'm surprised you got those RWS to group AT ALL! When I 1st got into airguns I tried them in every gun I had but wrote them off as the single worst "name brand" pellets I'd tried! Always had good luck with JSB, 25.39s. Those 33.95s you're shooting, are those the Mark II's?

@gerry52 I grabbed a tin of the RWS pellets just to try. I’m wondering what they shoot well in. No. These are original King Heavies. I shoot Mark IIs as well, but I hadn’t shot the MK Is in a months. At which velocities do the 25.39s shoot well for you?

We really got a chance to stretch her legs today. I was able to get out and test some slugs from a little beyond 100 yards. No groups to boast about, but I enjoyed myself and learned a thing or two. Still unable to post pics. Pellets didn’t perform by too bad either. I, on the other hand, need practice. Below was my setup. The target is the white dot down range almost in the center of the photo.

Tough to get the angle right to get a clear view down range and the yardage reading. Below it reads 104.

Wind was gusty between 5-10 mph. Below is a group testing some .251 JSB KOs 33.49 grain. Not sure if I’ve found the right size. They were a little tight to load into the breech.

As I said, I need practice.
