Tariffs Explained - Pyramyd AIR Insyder

For 90 days.
It’s good to see that Trump responded to his approval rating dropping 20 points on the economy 🙂.
However, we’re still going to see supply disruptions resulting from the past month’s reduced trade, which will affect pricing or produce shortages.

Anyone’s guess after the 90 day period, except Trump has shown he will respond to the polls and market conditions 👍.

The economy is not a popularity contest.

This is weird... But then I've reached the point at which no one in the media is trusted. Let's wait and see how things work out.

It will be interesting to see where we are on June 1st as supply chain effects become more clear 😉.
Problem is the uncertainty. Yes, suspended for 90 days but we called around this morning to a couple of associated companies and they are still planning on holding purchases above a certain cost. Unless it is critical the two I spoke with are limited to 10k or less.

I have a feeling there will be layoffs come June or July if our small sample is indicative of the overall purchasing plans.

Yep complete market uncertainty because the implementation of this has been all over the board. Which I believe unfortunately will lead to us getting shellacked in about a year and a half.

The $800 de minimis exclusion from Customs duties was eliminated in one of the recent actions (for products originating from PRC & Hong Kong). Note the term 'originating', not 'shipping from' as one AGN member recently learned the hard way.

(As of TODAY I don't know whether the de minimis exclusion is still eliminated, or is in place again due to the recently announced 90 day pause?) In any case, I'm not currently buying anything shipped from an OUS source. Maybe I'm not alone and that has contributed to what I heard on the 'national news' last night that the rate of inflation is at a 4 year low? Folks not spending money generally causes inflation to go down (or so I have been led to believe).
Yeah, 2020 hit everyone globally hard, but we managed to handle it very well and it's continued to decline.

This thread isn’t a political free for all. Please ensure your comments remain in line with our rules.
But this thread is political. Like just about everything else these days in one way or another. Im wondering WHY it hasnt been locked and deleted like many other eye opening, fact based, true political posts in the past?

Government economic policy is both political and directly affects the members of AGN. Some politics has to be included while explaining the effects of the tariffs. I assume the information is more important than the specific rules.

That and only a few posts were overtly partisan political and not addressing the economics and effects.

Most of it here was actually pretty objective and polite… with different views and opinions of course but that’s fine. The number of posts which weren’t is actually surprisingly low (which is refreshing as well).

The old USENET rule, if you don't like what someone writes, stop reading or block them.
100 % correct, thats what adults use to be able to do, but in this pampered age, peoples feelings are more important than actual facts, so if somones feelings are possibly hurt, the post will get locked or deleated, because you simply cant have a differing opinion than them. Its AGN's playpen and they can inforce the rules anyway they want, and make any excuse they want to lock, delete, or not lock a political post, but the rule about no politics, is not a absolutely rule, and based on what moderators feel about that particular post. In previous decades no or none, meant exactly that. But look around now, no,none, never, no longer mean what they once did. Its all about feelings.

You know, essentially this thread is about economics and potential impact of tariffs on our hobby, which is of course related to impact on the US economy overall. Doesn’t need to be political and only gets there if/because (some) people can’t bear disagreement with the narrative of their political faction (or, granted, are being provoked a little…).

It kinda confuses me that under normal circumstances, most folks on these airgun forums downgrade/badmouth Chinese airguns or anything airgun related from China. But now since tariffs are to be imposed most everyone is all up in arms about it.
I wonder if for many it's just a gateway for them to express their opinions on the whole topic in general.

I'm fairly ambivalent to origin of products, it is a global economy and the ship has sailed on protectionism. I have Turkish, Korean, US, Chinese, Swedish, British and probably elsewhere. My big issue is using Huben Power, AliExpress and Alibaba for parts, tanks, bottles and regulators for my guns. Specifically elimination of the de minimis rule for tariffs on purchases under $800. That primarily affected the consumer as opposed to the corporate. Even now with the 90 day hiatus AliExpress has significantly less variety and is still assessing tariff premium.

As usual it is the consumer class that gets hit when the investor class starts messing with the economy.
