Tapan Veteran Shorty is Awesome

I'm making that statement also shooting a Wildcat ll and a Brocock Sniper. All are .25s shooting the same JSB Diablo. Zero tuning on any of them. Just out of the box, mount a sight, and shoot. I've known what to expect from the Wildcat. If I put the crosshairs on the target, anywhere from 25-75 yds I am going to hit it. Now with the Sniper mounted with a new scope (Hawke replaced the old scope for free) I am getting similar accuracy with it. This is all on a bench with a good rest.

Enter the Shorty. Scope I ordered is still a week out. I decided to try the Hawke Sidewinder on the Shorty but didn't even mount it. Way too big. A brain cell fired and reminded me I had a sight, not a scope, that came on a Benjamin Woods Walker. It is tiny and light. There are about 5 different lighted reticles that show up in the scope and one can change the brightness to match target and conditions. It's not a laser sight. I found out there is a lot of difference in accuracy when you get the color, brightness, and style reticle to fit the target. There is zero magnification and sometimes the reticle blanks out the bullseye at 50 yds. The scope has an "A" and a "C" in side a geared wheel marked on the side so maybe somebody can identify the sight and name it so others can see it online. You can adjust windage and elevation on the scope. I mounted it and zeroed it for 25 yds. I had to have a spotting scope to see the impact point because there is no magnification in the sight.

I've shot all the rifles for the last couple of days. That tiny Shorty with the 'value' sight on it is as accurate as my other 2 rifles. I have steel sillouette targets set at the different ranges and if I can hit that target I can hit the pests I'll shoot at later. I didn't believe that little rifle would come anywhere near the other 2 premium rifle. It did! I must have the lightest 'sighted' Shorty out there and when I go to the farm tomorrow I'll use the Shorty for awhile. I got 30 shots from a 250 bar fill and it was down to 140 bar after the 30 shots. The hype about short barrel accuracy is not hype in my opinion. For what I am doing small is a bonus. Like others have said it's a fine trigger. The anti-double feed is comforting but I am still struggling a little with the cocking lever. I am right handed and am thinking I maybe should move it to the left side so I don't have to pul away from the rifle to activate the bolt. You probably don't need the longer barrels on the Veterans unless you are intent on going beyong a 100 yds.

Congrats on your Veteran shorty! I've been thinking about picking up one for myself as well although in .22cal. I've always wondered if moving the side lever to the left side of the gun would interfere with cheekweld. If you decide to move it to the other side, let us know how it works out. BTW, what scope did you order and what's the length?

I have a Mutant shorty and am right handed. I moved the leaver to the left and it doesn't interfere with the cheek weld at all for me. Ernest has a video on doing it. I'll never sell mine.
