Hello all! I have seen quiet a few posts with the question "what does the Taipan Vet shoot the best?" Well I have some starting points for those wondering this.
First off, this is my set up. Taipan Veteran Standard in .22 ca that I picked up from Talon Tunes in may of this year ( 2021) with a Vector Veyron 4-16X 44 FFP and a bog pod death grip tripod. (I know this is not the most stable shooting rest but it the best I can do).
So for the pellets this gun likes... anything i have trued has been relatively accurate if not phenomenally accurate. I have not found any pellets this gun wont shoot. Here's a list of the pellets I've tried so far
JSB 18.1g @ approx. 920-930 fps, JSB Hades @ 950ish fps, JSB 15.89g, Crosman Premier HP and domed both in 14.3g, H&N barracuda hunter extreme18.52g, H&N 18.1, JSB jumbo monster 25.39.
Here are some photos of some different pellets and slugs I shot all in the same day.
Each square is 1"x1" for refence
Circled in blue above is a 10 shot group at 30 yards with the JSB 18.1 using the supplied magazine for the taipan.
Circled in red above is an 5 shot group using the H&N 18.1 also using the magazine.
above in blue is 10 shots with the JSB Hades using the magazine.
all the mentioned pellets (even the ones I do not have pictures for have given me acceptable groups.
Field testing: I do quite a bit of pesting for farmers and i use the Hades the most out of those three. While the other two pictured still shoot lights out, the hades just a much better job of dropping those birds and making sure I'm not passing through my target and into the roof of a barn. The hades I have hit starlings out to 80 yards and the JSB 18.1s out to 104 yards.
Now here are the slugs that I have tested in this gun.
This group in red above is 5 shots with the FX Hyrbid slugs using the single shot tray.
Circled in blue above is 5 shots with the NSA 23g .217 diameter slugs using the single shot tray.
In blue above is 5 shots with the H&N 21g .217 slugs using the single shot tray
And finally these (in blue above) is 5 shots with the NSA 17.5g .2165 using the single shot tray. These may need some more tuning but overall i would say this is the only group i have no been happy with.
Now a reminder that all these groups were shot at 30 yards on the bog pod tripod
field use of these slugs: the FX hybrid slugs are the only option I've used in the field so far but man have they performed. I was tasked with cleaning up the ground hog population on my grandfathers fields and man did these ever help. I took out 7 in one evening using the exact same set up above except I used the magazine. They are dead nuts accurate out of this gun (If you do your homework of course!) and they pack a punch. The closest shot I took was 57 yards and the furthest was 131 yards (130 is the furthest I have dope for on this ammo) but never was there a doubt that the POI was off... head or neck shots on all of em.
SO in conclusion, yes, the Taipan Vet is super accurate, super quiet, and very deadly if you do your homework. it is hardly pellet picky.
I hope to be updating you all with more than a 30 yard test where maybe I can weed out some more of these and show some on paper accuracy at some further distances. please leave all feedback you have! thanks and enjoy!
