TalonP with Ronin

Just got a bunch of boxes from USPS and FedEx today, which made it feel like Christmas. I did happen to have a birthday at the end of last month though. Anyway, I just finished my Associate's degree today and bought a new airgun as a reward to celebrate this milestone on the way to my Bachelor's.

I know to many here airguns like the Airforce TalonP don't get much notice, but it fits my requirements without spending as much as I did on my Bobcat or Streamline, which eventually were sold.

I configured it as a carbine and have put a Ronin on it to keep her quiet. I have barely had the chance to assemble everything and get her changed up today, but was able to get a few shots to get her sighted in with the Hawke varmint I took off my Mrod. I have to say that I love this little compact package, which only measures 26 1/4". I plan on putting a different scope and was considering the Aztec emerald 3-18x50 with some high offset rings. Any other ideas that may be a better choice for this setup? I plan on about the $400 range area while keeping it somewhat compact( no more than 13.5").

I am looking forward to getting familiar with her this weekend, and maybe getting a Groundhog of two if time allows.

Dave, nice setup. I have the R&l shroud and a swfa 10x sf md on mine. No problem with 10x and Carson rat snipers. A few crows @ 100/125 yds. Good glass and outstanding clicking. Team up with Strelok pro and decent range finder pesting Is real fun.

Shambozzie, thanks for the suggestion! I had forgotten about the swfa scopes, especially the great value of the fixed power ones. I ordered the 12x after doing some testing with my 3-12x Hawke that is currently on it. I have mostly left it on 12x for all ranges since I bought it some time ago

My TalonP has been sporting a Ronin for awhile now, nice and quiet!! Not as compact now, but I’ll sacrifice the length for quietness.

Recently changed out a UTG Bugbuster for the Discovery scope, huge improvement with the extra magnificatiion.

Very nice!

where did you get the foam that you have on your tank? I have been looking for something like that with no real luck

Dave, I purchased adhesive backed 1/8” foam from amazon, XCEL Neoprene Sponge Rubber Sheet with Adhesive 54 in x 12 in x 1/8 in.

Works great, I’ve used it on my Leshiy air tube and cut a piece for cheek rest on Matador R5 also.

Here's mine Talonp w/ Ronin BP, just added 16" barrel. Still finding its slug sweet spot...

I found that mine lines the 34gr dimple nose the best, but will shoot the 33.5gr hollowpoint well enough for closer in stuff. I did shot 3 of the 33.5gr less than 1.4" @ 100 yards. When I get time I will have to group the 34grs and see what I can get.

I just took a ground yesterday with the 34gr at 125yards, although it was on my second shot. I saw the first one going down range and hit way low, but on perfect line. I think I might have done something that caused the shot to come out much slower. The second was right on the mark.

I cut the choke out of my 18" heavy barrel and re-crowned it and it seems to work well for slugs

Here is the current configuration.

Thanks Joe,

I will have to order some of that stuff.

Very nice KKarmical!

What 16" barrel are use using in your setup? I thought they only came in 12, 18, and 24" lengths. Did you cut a barrel down?

I just saw that you cut down you barrel on another thread. I get buisy and loose track sometimes.

I cut a 18" 12mm barrel down to 16" polished barrel then recrowned it. Could not decide whether to go with a 24" 15mm and cut it down to 22" but tried 16" first.

I'm 95% sure next up will be SWFA 10x, but do have a 22ci tank that I picked up and might order TT SHO valve for, but I am pretty satisfied with power right now, but keep going back and forth, I just need to order already 😁.

Dialing in NSA's this week, 33.5 / 36.2 hp & 36 dimple, with 34's on the way, I like them all, just going to fine tune each and then take it out to 100 and see.

I'm still a newby to this, and my Talon P is my 3rd pcp. I like it so much with the DonnyFL and Hawke on it that I ordered a new Condor SS to go with it. I love the size and weight, and man, it can definitely put the hurt on the groundhogs at the lake! I'm looking forward to shooting a lot more with the temps coming down soon, and want to push this gun out as much as possible to see just what it will do. Does everyone like the bipod on their gun? I couldn't decide on whether to do that yet. Got one for the Condor, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet.

Congrats on the Condor, I'll probably end up picking one up myself, as I really like this platform being so easy to work on.

Bipod and bags for shooting off a table. At first I was removing the forearm, but just cut a section of of rail long enough to keep forearm on and mount bipod, so I can remove it easily. So yes I like removable bipod, but wouldn't hunt with it, unless out shooting ground squirrels.

If Airforce offered a .30 Condor, I'd buy it today, instead I will have to put one together myself, but have to finish my Mrod build 1st, which all I need to do is decide which barrel to go with, leaning towards TJ, but shooting this LW barrel is making me think getting one for the Mrod as well.

kkarmical

I would like to try a 30 cal condor!

I just purchased an new .22 Mrod with the LW barrel upgrade which should be here before the weekend. I will use it for closer in stuff where I fear over penetration will the 25cal. Let me know what barrel you end up going with for your Mrod and how you like it...I will probably re-barrel my older Mrod that has a bad barrel in it. I plan on leaving the older one at my parents for pesting duties.

Darn you guys with your TalonP-Ronin pic. Never considered an AF until now. I like the simplicity of a single shot. The .25 TalonP would look nice attached to the lonely Ronin I have in my gun safe. 😉 Really surprised at the power/accuracy from only a 12" barrel. Looks like there is a solid base of enthusiasts and after-market support for this platform.

to make my talon p back yard friendly I used a Donny fl emperor 2 with the .123 ring loc it give me 800 fps with the 26g polymags on the 7+ hammer spring also way upped the shots but havnt done a full string.

Just removed the oring from behind my tophat. I could top out NSA 34gr's at 49fpe with it on, 64fpe with it off.

Now I have to see exactly where it shoots best, I'm thinking somewhere around 55/58fpe based on 25yrd performance.

But you never know I may be able to keep it cranked up I must admit, I am seduced by its power🤗

I found that mine likes around 880 FPS with the 34gr, which makes a little over 58 Ft-lbs. That might give you a place to start and find where it changes as you go up or down in power.
