Alphabet org looking at air gunsby iride » Sun Dec 20, 2015 11:52 pmI think we are in the golden years of the air guns , The PCPs in general, Maybe all, I just had a fine supper with some fine gentlemen. Thats all I am saying. Nice guys.
The new air guns can take down big game, some states are opening up the air gun to hunting game animals, Deer, Turkey, That makes the air gun BB gun looked at under a different light..
Trust me the Alphabet org has not turned a blind eye on a air gun that can shoot quarter size groups at 100 yards and can kill big game at that distance,,,
I am just saying , I do not mean to set the alarms off but just thirty years ago we struggled. (Air gun sport) with 800 FPS in 177 caliber .
I truly think we are in the golden age of the air gun sport, Enjoy while you can , As I think big brother may have a say so in our sport pretty soon.
If the NRA does not take us under there wing maybe we can have a NAG , National air gun fighting for our rights and hobby,
Really suck to go the way Canada and the people over the big pond went,
No disrespect to the Europeans are to Canada

What even makes you think that?

PCP's you are talking about taking big game at 100 yards are those that produce over 500-1200fpe and deliver 1-2 shots per fill like the muzzle loaders do that are legal to buy without a lengthy process.

You should not worry about US becoming like Europe. Air rifles are expensive to begin with, 3 to 5 times the price of a decent firearm and we have no shortage of firearms here, so nobody really cares about airguns - we are a very small community. In fact most firearm folks don't understand why we blow so much money on these toys.

Why there are such crazy airgun laws in some of European countries is hard to understand. From what I have heard their crazy gun laws have only created large black markets for air rifles too. As the result they spend more of their tax dollars on problem their laws have created. But I don't see this happening here in the US.

Hey Mike, I live in Canada no offence taken. We have a new Anti-Gun Prime Minister running the country now. He was a White Water Rafting Guide which is great, now we have a professional to take us down the river!

 take away all weapons, maybe they should take a look at restricting vehicles first after the carnage in Las Vegas yesterday and restrict kitchen knives because as far as I am concerned they are just as lethal as a pellet gun.

My biggest concern is losing my right to my backyard shooting.
With these big guns coming, I am afraid even the low powered guns will be banned in village backyards..
Once the general public becomes even more aware that we can shoot .22 and larger pellets to speeds of over 1,000 feet per second, I am afraid the #### will hit the fan.
I really think the general public will not differentiate low to high power guns.....so they will restrict any and all air guns.
Call me crazy but in our town ... we can't shoot crossbow or any archery bow for that matter...

If you can't shoot a bow in town.... what do you think they will think of a .25 caliber in the back yard...

Most hunters who shot traditional fire arms have no clue on ballistics on their own fire arms. Mostly everyone one I talked to don't know anything about fpe, fps, or their gun's bullet drop and some have been hunting their hold lives. To them, hunters and the general public, they think air rifles are just toys. For politicians, I hope they still continue thinking this way

I have to agree with wyshadow I just got a new neighbor and hes been hunting since he was a kid and we talked about the fact that I will occasonaly plink alittl in my back yard with my p-rod at 20 yards witch I shoot into my shed where I made a double layer back stop using concreat blocks and hard wood door inserts I got free that are an inch thick its completely contained but I was in aw as we started talkiking about fire armes as he thought mine couldent take a squirrel and I laughed all he went off of was his bulllet group well at this yard and everything else came from the box of the bullet he really dident know a lot about the actualy working of it... he now has a M-rod he got this week and I'm helping him figure out all this stuff and hes so lost yesterday I looked at him laughed and said say good bye to lazy shooting know you have to think learn and compensate now not saying you don't due that for shooting a powder burner but to him this holds true as he now has to acuratly find range learn how to hold over and make sure that his accuracy is dead on but he loves it so far

I've had my concerns about this as well and believe it's only an "event" seen by the wrong politician away from air gun regulations being created. If I'm being honest about the whole situation I believe the only reason they aren't regulated is because the general population still thinks they are just toys. There are many air rifles just as capable as powder burners and are essentially unregulated. That said, I'm off the opinion that most gun regulations are useless.

That is awesome gorgata, lots of us like myself started with air guns and then moved on or away from them I came back to them for about 6 years and then drifted off again to F-Class 1000 yard shooting and a lot of military styled shooting ....now i am back at the airguns again and i will add this shooting an rifle defiantly made me a better shooter and helped me get to where i am with powder burners ...having said that extreme long range powder burners have really helped my extreme air gunning lol
its a big circle

Absolutely agree 1kshooter. I grew up in the UK.... Hunted a lot with 12ft Ibs and then moved over to MN in 1993 and allowed off the leash. I got into deer hunting, small game hunting, and ultimately high power and F class match shooting at the medium distance of 600yds. Never done 1000m though. Now I am back to Airguns again after a long time away. I am new to PCP's though but now have a .22 JKHAN and a .25 BSA scorpion. The lower power makes you hone your skills more and that can be applied in the longer range powder burner world. The whole concept of getting NPA sorted out and your position consistent applies regardless of shooting discipline. In other words, each shooting discipline can benefit you in others...

"stumpy"Hi there, In New Zealand a few years ago our law stated, to own a air rifle or pcp you had to be over 18 with out a firearms lic or 16 and over with a firearms lic. Then someone went and shot, killed a police man with a pcp. Now you have to have a firearms lic to own a pcp.Other air rifles the law stayed the same. stumpy.

Hogwash. The Alphabet org doesn’t give a rats behind.

And for that fact, no other governing agency does either. 

The future is bright.

No one is going to make you register or regulate your “BB” guns so you don't have to go hiding them under the mattress. 

Do you know how much time and effort not to mention money has been put into TRYING to convince the US Fish and Wildlife Departments of each state to allow air guns to be accepted as a worthy weapon to take game with?

Did you know that only EIGHT out of FIFTY states it’s legal to hunt White Tail deer with but not one restricts the use of a firearm or bow?

Why do you think that is?

And less than HALF the states will let you hunt squirrel with an air gun?

My uneducated guess is they don’t see them as a powerful and/or accurate enough weapon to be effective. So if the states don’t see air guns as “lethal” weapons then I doubt seriously any government agency will even care to listen.

Air guns are probably the most misunderstood “weapon” out there and that’s good for us who shoot them. They will never be “controlled” at anything but the very local level.

Guys in black suits and ties, wearing Oakley’s, driving black SUV’s with tinted windows and state funded license tags aren’t going to be parked in your driveway when you get home from work unless you did something stupid or irresponsible. Use common sense, respect others and their property, and above all, practice SAFETY and this will allow you to have fun and enjoy your hobby.

Oh yea, next time you have dinner with your "fine gentlemen" buddies, ask them which they fear the most; a nut case with a “golden age” air gun or nut case with a “modern age” radio controlled drone carrying a pipe bomb?

I agree with Dave Cole ... I have a close relative who works for Alphabet org ..They don't give our BB guns a seconds thought !!
To them its a slight ..andi mean Very slight more threatening than a pointed stick !!
We hunted together in October and he was amused at my 25 Cricket . But no more than he was with my cousins slingshot .
He said in all the briefings he had ever attended Air guns had come up a total of Zero times . Do t get me wrong , a tragedy involving airguns could get unwanted attention but regardless of how we feel about each others opinions .
It's a sport that most beer guzzling , ****** , 9th grade educated trouble makers simply can't afford .

Right now if it doesn't have AR-15 stamped on the side, its not under immediate threat. Airguns will become under threat when all guns in general get bans or restrictions. No one is going to go on a killing spree with an airgun. It's not "practical". An AR can be bought for under $500 and it doesn't need to be recharged after 20 rounds. Don't get me wrong, our airgun hobby can easily get restrictions placed on them and I believe we are walking a fine line with firearms.
