Taipan VL.25 ... ground squirrel ... headshot ... close

It was a sow at 25 yards and messy.

Got two young pups, down the hatch they went, and man are they ever stupid.

I just posted the story and another one showed up and I shot it right in the head.

It's weird because I shot it heard a big thunk and it flopped over rolled down the hill about 10 ft and then started wiggling around.

Both the one picture where nursing moms and they were pretty short bus.

The second picture I must have shot it right in the face cuz it looks like it went out the right side behind the shoulders

Mr. JohnnyPDX,

Excellent shooting as usual, good pictures and commentary. Your Taipan looks lethal, the ground squirrels fear the "Black Death". Glad you got to be out and enjoy the wildlife, a bonus for you. Do be vigilant around grows, I have had several nearby and scandalous scum bags lurk about and have caused all nature of problems for me.

My Taipan Veteran .22 long got it's first ground squirrel last week. 30 yard shot from a comfortable rest position, I was able to get a head shot "pop" and the 25.4 gr FX pellet @ 900 fps flipped it over backwards leaving a bloody smear as it slid down between the logs to GS purgatory.

Good luck with your pesting, stay healthy and safe

I am scanning the foreground more because they pop up, SquirrelCide I suppose, and just stand there.

Your description is wonderful "... flipped it over backwards leaving a bloody smear as it slid down between the logs to GS purgatory." It's like then ending to a children's bedtime story. My sense of humor could use some refinement, some say.

Do not recall seeing pics of your new Taipan? I NEED a compact in .22, for health reasons, according to my Dr.

Mr. JohnnyPDX,

Did your sawbones write you a prescription for that .22 Taipan Compact?? The last time I checked my Medicare plan would cover that and the pharmacy had all flavors in stock. Or does the Doc. just want to go hunting with you and try out the T V Compact....Your sense of humor is already refined.

I was waiting to post a picture of my Taipan with a co-operative ground squirrel, we will just have to be patient ( a post operative patient ) either way will work.

Good luck with your pesting, stay healthy and safe

The "SawBones" is very cooperative, video meetings only, and after describing my symptoms he concluded (agreed) that I need more time out of the house and killing things to relieve the pressures of aging and boredom. He's a great guy and always 'has my back'.

Ya never know whether there's going to be a Photo Op with GS, keep trying! How in the hell do they take a SMACKDOWN shot and still crawl into the hole???
