Taipan Veteran Long .22 owners - slugs?

Mine is scheduled for delivery on Tues - can't wait. :)

From everything I've read and seen via youtube video's, it'll fling JSB pellets like nobody's business. I jumped on the bandwagon some months ago when the FX Hybrids were released to see if I could use them in my Air Arms S510. ( turns out - not really ... ) Yes - it can and does shoot them but no better than low 700's fps. I've still got 70-80 of them left from that evaluation . . . will they fly out of my Vet? ( at the speeds that they're best at -- 900+ fps )

I've recently been experimenting with some light 216 17.5g NSA's in that same AA and they are in fact working quite well.

So again - .22 Veteran Long owners - have you, or are you, shooting slugs with it and if so - what have you found that seems to work best?

I am using the 17.5 nsa out of a kral puncher breaker at 890 to 910 fps and they are lasers out to a 100 yards. If you can get your AA to 850 or higher the 17.5 should work well. I am averaging .44 inches at 50 yards and about 1.2 inches at 100 in light wind.

When I use to have mine..for longer distances 18g air arms better than jsb and for slugs at that time only 21 g were available in light slugs they shoot the best.. taipan .22 long in factory configuration dont like slugs or pellets heavier than 21g for 100y + shoots eeven maxt out .. but now they are plenums and high Hp huma regulators to solve that problem..note aside my taipan could shoot 28g boat tail accurately..the only reason I think the boat tails have a lot less drag on the barrel than a 25g flat base slug....and my .25 long could shoot 52g boat tail for the same reason...ofcourse a lot of hold over but they fly straight ... I found them under power ,for the size n weight especially when I could do the same shoots with my. 22 cricket compact in 100y ..at that time and sold them as soon talon tunes bump the price....to be fair I should have waited they would have plenums installed by now...😒.. but no crying with that money i buy 3 crickets ..I think I like more the convince of the 4 mag holders on the stock will be ordering some plenums soon .

Last year I tested all the NSA weights and diameters, AVS slugs in most weights, and several Griffin slugs. All shot about equally well which is to say not quite as good as the JSB Monster Redesigns at 100 yards. I identified the 22 gr. AVS slugs as the best so far. I say best because my gun seems to very comfortably shoot them at 900 fps with the same accuracy as all the other slugs. The diameter of the AVS slugs measure .2155 on my calipers and they slip past the choke easier than other slugs that measure larger. This makes the AVS slugs of the same weight shoot faster than all the other slugs. The NSA slugs all shoot at a lower velocity than expected. The harder alloy of the slugs is to blame. The Griffin slugs are a true .217 diameter and are just as accurate but also get hung up on the choke a tad.

I have the FX, JSB and Talon slugs to test as soon as my local paintball shop and gun range both open back up.

I also own a Corbin press and have experimented extensively with some of my own designs. Sadly, none of them are as good as the commercially purchased pellets but I'm having fun testing them.

I'd like to add one more key piece of data. I've resized all slugs in .005 inch increments down to .215 inches. I've found the harder alloy of the NSA slugs shoot slower at all slug diameters. .215 velocities were basically the same as .217 veloicities with NSA. This suggests to me that they have trouble going through the choke because of the harder material they are made out of rather than the difference in diameter. I've fired hundreds of shots of slugs in .217, .2165, .216, .2155 and .215 and the overall average in group size is about the same. To reiterate, the velocity of the .2155 slugs is marginally faster than the larger sized one. I need to shoot more .215 sized slugs but they look like they might be less accurate than the larger diameters. I test at a variety of velocities and that can muddle up the data a bit.

Hello fellow shooters. I had been doing bit of research about Taipan Veteran 2 after I got a chance to shoot one. This research and communication with lead to a visit to Taipan's assembly shop during my visit to the Czech Republic. They were happy to welcome me to their assembly shop. Their technician Wilhelm was so patient and walked me through the entire assembly process. I was allowed to shoot a video and I would like to share the same with everyone. It is bit long, so grab a coffee or soda.

This is the first time that I made a video about air rifles (normally I focus on knives and bushcraft) and would love to hear your suggestions to help me make better videos.

Cheers!

I'm late to this thread - I'm shooting dimes at 50yrds with my .25 Standard. 42gr Griffin LDC BTs
