I think I remember reading that of you take out the hammerspring you can then twist the adjuster back in and it will press the hammer against the valve allowing the air evacuate through the barrel. I will try and find where I read/saw that.
Dear Hoot, remove your HST assembly and place one of your false teeth between the stem valve and the hammer. Then just crank in the HST to slowly release the air.

I use a set screw. Drop it in the small cavity at the end of the hammer spring adjuster. Keeping the set screw in place and with the hammer spring removed, screw the adjuster back in. The set screw will depress the valve-stem and bleed the system quite quickly and a bit on the loud side but very efficiently as well.
