Taipan Veteran Experiences

The easiest and most fun way to shoot different pellets and slugs is with different guns. Guys don’t use their deer rifles for squirrel and they don’t use their squirrel rifles for pheasants. To have a truly great pcp, you have to find what it likes and leave it alone.

☝🏽

I echo this statement. You would also have to re-zero for each caliber or pellet/slug. It's best to just...

Another Taipan Veteran fan here!

I exclusively shot .22 for over 20 years.. Then this past year, I had a short stint of trying out a few .25 cals.
One of the .25 cal rifles I got was a Taipan Veteran 'Shorty'. That Little Pup Was Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
My .25 cal phase was over fast. Too much power for what I want/need. Even with that 'Shorty'.
I passed that one one, but, I'd get another one of them [in .22 cal] any day and in a heartbeat!

They're stupid accurate and consistent, and their triggers are pretty much second to none!
[At least that I've come across - and that includes modified/tuned trigger setups too]

Many have said it, will say it, and I'll agree.. These Taipan Vets are hard - if not impossible to beat.
[Very few other rifles fit into that same category]

**I could clone this reply and use it for KalibrGun rifles also**

🙂👍

So many users of Taipan here and nobody post any picture of barrel crown?? I would like to have idea how it should looks. THX

Lol. It definitely shouldn't look like yours. It's as simple as that. Just imagine the whole crown without the damage like yours.

Edit: Also, you have already started your own thread about your issue. Ask more there. Some of the guys might not want to remove there shrouds or moderators because of point of impact shift.

My day with the .22 standard, shooting 18g JSB @ 990 FPS. Added Huma reg and plenum extender. 50+ shots/fill. These were taken at 70-80 yards at the local farm today. Only a fraction of the total kills. At 75 yards this gun shoots sum MOA all day. Best truck gun in my collection. Will be the last gun I part with if the need arises.

Also have a .25 and .22 long that are not as accurate. Still working on tuning both.

I agree with that. Once you are able to figure out what to shoot, the Taipans have like an eternal memory 😎 That was pretty easy to figure out with my little Mutant, but I still haven't decided what suits my Veteran best. It's auditioning 31.2gr NSA slugs (.217) at 71FPE tomorrow.

Can you give me a little more info on the harmonic tuning? What pellets and why the need? Just curious. I have a .25 standard coming this week. Thanks 🙏
I basically used a chronograph and shot several 5 shot groups at different velocities to see which group was the best group. I used the hammer spring tensioner to vary the group size. My pellet of choice is the job 25 grain pellet. My current Vet is the .25 Compact. When I originally wrote the post you quoted, I had the Regular Vet. I have a friend that has a Regular size Vet in .25 and he uses the MKII Heavies and gets amazing groups.

Did you buy your rifle new or used? I would suggest your shot at least one tin to break in your gun before you fiddle with the HS. It may be good to go as is.

Thank you! That's exactly what I planned on doing . I purchased brand new and have heard about how great the Taipan is right out of the box. I will definitely try some of those MKII Heavies.
I'll offer one tuning suggestion, and I apologize if this is old information for you. You can use the hammer spring tension adjustment to find your desired velocity. However, at that point you might not have a very efficient tune, since the spring tension and reg set point need to work together as a well balanced combination. Generally, your desired velocity should be around 95-97% of the maximum velocity at your reg set point. If it is much below that, you may be wasting air and generating unnecessary noise. A more efficient tune would give you a greater shot count and less sound. The Veteran is a great rifle, enjoy!
