Taipan Veteran Experiences

Octavius’s issue is the first time I have ever seen that kind of issue, if any with a Taipan. No other manufacturers can say that. Except maybe Ed, his guns are solid also. If you are addicted to modifying guns, your skills better be off the charts because you have to get real creative to squeeze a little extra out of a Taipan. If you think you have to make it better and don’t have those skills you might find it boring. It is a buy it and shoot it gun. Maybe a fine adjustment with the HS. Mine settled in shooting 18.1’s 890-900fps. Never touched it or the scope for 2 years. Regularly took birds out to 130yrds. Crazy. Hope the new ones perform like the CZ barreled ones like mine.

I’ve only had my .22 long for a few weeks but I’m 100% sold on it. It’s a little heavy to carry but it only aids in bench shooting. I already owned other brands and didn’t really need another gun but with all the low key hype from people that obviously knew their way around PCPs I had to see what they were about. I’d sell half my collection but this guns a keeper for sure.

I bought a .22 compact vet from RL Airguns when they first came out. Loved it. Super quiet, super accurate, light weight even with a scope mounted.
I was going to a prairie dog hunt in Colorado last year. Swung by RL on the way. Long story short when we left RL, I now had a .25 compact and one of the guys that was with me had a standard Vet .25. Both guns are still factory stock mechanically.

This very week we are back in Colorado on another PD hunt shooting our vets. The guns are so quiet, we can and do shoot adjacent dogs. We are hitting them easily inside 100 yards. If we do our part and hold accurately for wind, 150 yards is not out of the question. I’ll be doing a report on our hunt in the next couple of days.

Octavious got me curios about his issue with the Taipan, typically like Vetmx said, Taipan's owners are very pleased with the rifle. I was one of those. This gun is super well made and will be reliable out of the box, no need to modify to shoot well, out of the box will be very very accurate.

The gun in my opinion feels a bit outdated, I think the Veteran was released in 2017, and the most recent change, last year was the new stock. That being said it still have the anti double feeding mechanism that for me is a game changer, I really don't know why more manufactures are not adopting this feature. This being said there are rumors of a new Taipan for 2021, I'm waiting!!!

Now I'll go and read Octavious!

I own both a impact, and a veteran. They are a quiet different, but both nice guns. My taipan required 2 adjustements when I got it. First it was shooting to fast, 1040 fps with JSB heavy. It might have been tuned for jsb monster heavy for all I know, but I dialed it down to 800 as a start, and then after some breaking in period up to about 900fps with JSB heavy. And the trigger was set with to long seccond stage on mine. Some say it is a safety measure when the gun is delivered to the customer. But it was easy to adjust, and has a very nice trigger. Properly better than on the impact, mainly because it seems to be easier to adjust to exactly where you like it.

At 25m it seems to rival my impact regarding accuracy, but i have not done any comparison at longer distance. I can get it to shoot mostly within 10fps ES, even when the speed is being adjusted way lower than the plateu. My gun seemed quiet when I had it shooting in the low 800`s but is a litle loud when shooting at 900, for my liking. So until I get a moderator adapter, I will probably lower the speed some, where the stock moderator do just fine.

The rear cocking has so far not bothered me much when shooting of the bench. I find it easy to cock the gun with my left hand, and leave the trigger hand on the grip. It is a litle heavier, compared to some FX guns, but that can make it easier to shoot more precisely of a bench. Compared to a wildcat (which I also own), I find the taipan easier to shoot precisely of the bench because of the added weight. I personally will keep both my impact, wildcat and taipan, as I like a litle diversity, but I might actually sell one of my other guns, as I start to have to many:)

Thanks for all the info guys. I have enjoyed my impact. But I am just not that good at trying to get it tuned. I still want a high end rifle/Bullpup. I was thinking about a taipan, then started looking at the wildcat mk3. Not sure what I am going to do. I know some will say just buy them all. Haha!! I was hoping to find a gun I could just turn a power wheel to shoot different grain pellets/slugs when I wanted to. Just not sure it’s possible or that simple.
