Just purchased a Veteran from a member and I would like to mount a bipod but I have not had any luck finding any information. If anyone had installed one please let me know what direction you went for install.
I used the Atlas Bt17 rail and mounted it with 10-24 button head machine screws. Drilled the holes 9/64 and tapped the first 1/4" or so to make sure the threads would take. It ended up rock solid. This is the method that Tominco shows in his rail mounting video (youtube search) and it has worked well for me on many guns. You don't need to get this extensive with it to be honest, you can just get a rail and mount it using wood screws... P.S. sorry for the massive pictures... Not sure how to make them smaller?
Y I purchased a compact vet (.22) from TalonTunes and installed one on it. I first used a set of calipers to determine the center running long ways on the bottom (front to back). With the calipers I scribed two small marks on the forend grip just barely longer than the rail itself. I then used a small straight edge to make a line from mark to mark with a dry erase marker. Remember to allow for the marker thickness so that your holes will not be off centerline. Once the marker line is perfectly centered, place the rail in position, I eyeballed the distance between the rail and front edge of the stock to appear evenly spaced with the sides. Once in position, I used my scribe to trace the I.d. Of the mounting holes into the stock . Then I located the center of each hole. Next was the drilling!!! Be careful!!! I used a 3/16” drill in my mini drill press once the first hole was through I placed the rail and a bolt in place to verify the bit did not walk and that my remaining hole to be drilled was lined up perfectly. After this I removed the rail and bolt, then carefully drilled the second hole. Next I used a 3/8” drill to counter sink the holes on the inside of the stock so that the nuts will sit below the surface, not touching the air tube. I used 1 1/2” stainless steel button head Allen bolts (10-32) with stainless nylock nuts. I had to shorten the bolts about an eighth of an inch or so as well so that they would not touch either. I then cleaned up my mess and bolted the rail in place. Oh yeah my rail has a couple of oval line up/ registers on the bottom that I milled out of the stock on the drill press ( two holes 1/8” deep next to each other done with the same 3/8” wood bit) so that the rail sits completely flush on the stock. Btw the wood bits have a very sharp point that aided in precise positioning.I hope this helps enjoy !!!
