Taipan Mutant Short Putting the Smack Down on the Ground Squirrels!

Had a chance to get out with my brother again this past weekend to our local dairy farms for a bit of pesting on the ground squirrels. Arrived at the farm did our morning ritual of checking our zeros and shooting paper for a bit while it warmed up and the squirrels started to come out of there dens. It was not a long wait and and had just sighted the Mutant in at 50 yards using the JSB 18.1 gr pellets. The gun printed a dime size group at that distance and I was very happy with that.

My brother ended the day with around 20 with his Cricket .25 and best shot for him was 115 yards, most shots from 70-100 yards. I ended the day with 17 for the Mutant and best shots were two back to back at 101 yards, not bad for a 13" barrel! I'm liking this little Mutant! Most of my shots ranged from 40-80 yards and the wind was non-existent so pellet trajectory according to Chairgun was spot on!

A few pics I took...until next time!

Great day! Thanks for sharing! I love a good Taipan Discovery combination. It looks like you both were fitted nicely with Discovery scopes. That head shot left nothing for the imagination of what's left inside.

101 yards back to back speaks nicely as to your taste in equipment (love for all the Taipans) and the skills to back it up.

Here's my Taipan Veteran shorty in 22 when I still could call her mine, she's with Jtrobb now...

These Taipans sure can put the smack down in the field.

Wiseguy,

A dairy? Ground Squirrels? What looks like the Sierras in the background? What part of the San Juaquin Valley are you in?

I'm a Tulare boy originally, now on the Central Coast (Squirrel Mecca).

From the looks of the mountains, I'd say you're in the north end of the SJV.

Justin

Ontario/Chino area...tons of Dairy's...but they are getting wiped out quickly with so many new developments going in.😢

I love my Taipan shorty in .22!! I used the varmint knockers 22.5 grain at 815 fps and was very impressed how accurate they are. Head shots on ground squirrels out to 70 yards no problem!! That was the farthest I was able to find the squirrels. I’m sure i can stretch it out some more. Great shooting by the way!!

Since you have the exact same gun as I do, did you have to increase the power to get them to shoot at that speed? These 18.1gr JSB's are so accurate out of this little gun!

Nice going Wiseguy!!! my shorty is shooting the JSBs 18gr @ 870fps, man this little bug is pretty accurate and quiet, i cant wait to take out some squirrels with it, i see they are out already here in socal.

I shoot them all year long! They never go away...just alot more action in the springtime with the curious little dumb pups 😁
