Taipan .25 cal owners - Can you post some pics of your 50 yard groups?

As some of you have stated in this thread, it appears others have also had challenges with their .25 cal accuracy too. I am "resigned" to the fact that I am not going to get 1/2" average sized groups with this rifle. Could be the barrel, but as Scott indicated to me when we talked recently, shooting from the Bench with a bullpup and the recoil of the .25 is not the same as shooting with my RAW or RW long rifles. If I thought Tony at TT would swap out my .25 barrel and pellet probe for a .22 barrel and pellet probe, that might be an option for future consideration. I have a feeling that the .22 may be more accurate at 50 yards, but no facts/data to support that either.

Tommy, it seems that the barrels that come with the .25 Taipan are frequently "unfinished" My buddy Tony bought a used one .25 Long and the barrel was HORRIBLE. Both the Leade and the Crown needed to be re-done. Its still not super accurate unless it shoots the "unobtanium" .25 King Heavy. He was shooting Mk2 at 50 yards a few weeks back, getting maybe quarter size groups, a few nickel size. I asked to shoot the gun and loaded some King Heavy (Mk1) and proceeded to put 5 shots well inside a dime... But, as we all know now, JSB has decided not to make those anymore... ;(

a SHORT bullpup and heavy recoil of a .25 cal is not a recipe for great accuracy.

There simply is a very low chance a PUP in the larger calibers will hang with a LONG GUN while punching paper at distance

Scott, no disrespect intended, but tell that to all the guys shooting .30 caliber Impacts at the EBR style events like RMAC, EBR, and PAC... and winning... When we recently shot in Oregon .30 and .25 high power pups shot the highest and third highest scores, with a .22 Thomas HP-X second best score in 100 yards. Unless of course you don't consider an Impact or Delta Wolf short... ;)

Mike, not to speak for Scott, but I know that his background is heavily focused on FT. I am not into FT, but I shoot quite a bit in the yard using shooting sticks and seated either on my deck step, or a stool, similar to FT shooters. And, when I really want to embarrass myself, I'll shoot from various positions. In either of those scenarios, the bull pup platform is definitely more difficult to shoot, for the reasons Scott mentioned. From the bench, using a good bipod, I see no disadvantage in the BP.

Finally gave the JSB MKll's ( 33.95g ) a go today.

I started out at 745 FPS on the Chrono, and turned up the HST to around 890 FPS.

At 890 FPS I chrono'd (3) 10-shot strings and the ES was 17, 14, and 10 and accuracy was good. Groups were at 38 yards at first, but then I wanted to see how it would do at 50 yards. Shooting off of an Accu-Tac BiPod and a front rear bag. I am wondering if 865-870 FPS might be a bit more accurate, but I will try that next time out.

Surprisingly, they did pretty good in light wind.

Mike, please tell me this is not true! I’ve been out of the loop for a while. The standard 33.95 is my Cricket’s favorite food. I don’t mean to high jack the OP’s thread but they can’t do this!😩

This is a 12 shot group at 100 yards with my .25 Cricket. The shot out of the group was #9 I guess it was as me, certainly wasn’t the gun.

please excuse me for high jacking the tread but I had no idea JSB had done this.

I have a Veteran shorty in .22 and I absolutely love it. It will put a whole mag inside a dine at fifty if you do your part.

The things that make it such a fine gun, besides the build quality, are anti-double feed, dual transfer port that isn’t drilled into the barrel, hammer spring has no preload when gun is not cocked, and a great trigger. Plus they are built like a tank.

No worries, you’re not hijacking anything. That is a great group at 100 yards with your Cricket.

Tommy, those groups are much improved and you might get them a little tighter with some more tuning. I am posting some 5 shot 50 yard groups from my .25 Vet compact below. I recently bought it from Charlie at Georgia Air Guns. He tests quite a few different pellets to see which one works best in the gun you are getting and gives you a shot card showing all the results. Mine showed the best accuracy with FX 25.39 grain so that’s what I am currently shooting. I’ll try a few others once the pellet supply gets better and I can find some without paying an inflated price. Groups were all from a shooting bench I made myself with the rifle on sand bags. I adjusted my scope a couple clicks to the left for the last group that is centered.

Cannonball - nice shooting.

What velocity are you shooting the 25g pellets at to achieve those groups? I had “fair” accuracy at 900-915 FPS, but “ fair ” is relative.

Do you recall your approximate velocity when you shot your three groups? Tx…Tom
